I think that the Green berets are the Famous Mountain Hunters
Bright red Paratroopers, Dark red - Infantery, the Blue Cammo Patern is the National Geandarmerie (the ones that restablished the orders in Kosovo - in the news they where called Romanian Specia Riot Forces)

Romania has come a long way, now they beat us to NATO! Good show!
And nice funny hats, too! :D

BTW, are there any units left in the world who use spiked helmets, other than Swedish Svea Livgarde outside Royal Palace in Stockholm? Funny hats rule!

Yes. In Chile they still are used in ceremonial parades, it was a direct prusian and austrian influence prior to IWW.

I will not be happy with my country`s military untill i see real special forces and snipers and some 5.56 infantry weapons.
What about the Type 22 FFG when will they enter service.
About the gepards i think that we have around 30 from about 70 orderd but i`m not shure.

Ghepards are from Bundeswehr stocks.. 45 I think and rest up to 70 are used for spare parts.
The Broadsword and Coventry should be ready in 2005, from what I remeber. I am currious how they will be named.
Droopy..there are Snipers in Romanian Army , also SOF, but their organisation is different.
The equipament is in continuous changing...
They aquired MOWAG EAGLE (build under licence), TAR21, Spike, etc

BTW. what is your opinion about the MiG-21 Lancer upgrade?
I've heard that modernised aircraft have problems with new avionics...

They don't have problems with avionics.
The flight hours where dramatically increase. Now a 80h /year is average(during last comunist years it was 10 h). Their capabilities is much Improved(all wheather capability, precise navigation, precision bombing, Helmet Mounted Display).

Each Platoon have 1-2 SVD rifle. The man who carry it is trained in using it at long range. For Close range they use the normal AKM.
As for SOF, "Cercetare-Diversiune" (Scouts-Diversion) are spread among he normal military units. They are different from the way of training.

Good to know that :D
IMHO we in Poland could do the same with our MiG-21s, but now it's too late :|
Anyway, thanks for the info

I`m talking about real snipers not marksman with SVD.
As for the cercetasi those pictures are awful they look to be taken in the 70`s not in 2001.
As i said untill we get real snipers and SOF the infantry is the very weak part of romania`s army.

You are complectly wrong on that one. Infantery is still one of our assets. Not having a sniper specialised group doesn't mean that infantery is weak.
As for SOF, you know as well as I that the Army is very secretive about many things. I had 2 good friends in "Scouts" and they couldn't tell me much details about their training.
About the pictures, on that site there aren't many nice pictures, i don't know why, perhaps PR is not the best they could do.

Why are they so secretive ?
The ideea is to show your muscles not hide them.
And about PR i think that people like us on forums do more publicty and information than the Ro Army dose :(
