I find the French very much "pleasant", and I think their gear is great as well.
Not to mention the CCE pattern featured here.
That "cow pie" hat was something the French "mountain troops" or something like that wear.

it was just a joke
here's another
French Military History in a Nutshell
Gallic Wars: Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian.
Hundred Years War: Mostly lost, saved at last by a female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare - "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchmen."
Italian Wars: Lost. France becomes the first and only country ever to lose two wars when fighting Italians.
Wars of Religion: France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots.
Thirty Years' War: France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.
War of Devolution: Tied; Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.
The Dutch War: Tied.
War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War: Lost, but claimed as a tie. Deluded Frogophiles the world over label the period as the height of French Military Power.
War of the Spanish Succession: Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved ever since.
American Revolution: In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare: "France only wins when America does most of the fighting".
French Revolution: Won, primarily due to the fact that the opponent was also French.
The Napoleonic Wars: Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.
The Franco-Prussian War: Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.
WWI: Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like not only to sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.
WWII: Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.
War in Indochina: Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed with Dien Bien Flu.
Algerian Rebellion: Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a Western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare -"We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Eskimos.
War on Terrorism: France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe

"War of the Spanish Succession: Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved ever since. "
Kind of a side note, but does anyone know why people consider the war of Spanish Succession a lose? They did get to keep their king on the thrown of Spain. I always though that this and most of the war fought between the French and Europe ended in a draw, rather than a defeat.

This is both insulting and despicable.
:bash:
The courage and tactical capability of the french army cannot be questionned, and if often the political echelon didn`t follow up, fallen french soldiers deserve a minnimum respect.
This kind of conscipious remark is as dumb as "franchouillard" anti americanism, and has a racist colour that is unaceptable.
By the way, my unit when i was in France (EED2) was carrying the PUC (Presidential Unit Citation) for its action during the WW2 with the US army.
As for the war of Algeria, France WON, the FLN was nothing left in 1961/62
but the governement decided to leave anyway, reconciliation wasn`t a fashionable word then.
As for french ewaponry, just know that it has always been innovative and technologically advanced, and that a lot of tactical concept have been tried for the first time by the french, such as the air cav in algeria, the engine in front of the tank with the AMX13, the use of helicopters with AT capacity.
, The FAMAS, first bullpup ss109 AR was adopted in 1978!, the Leclerc is one of the most advanced tank ever, a so goes for most of the new equipement. What never followed was the organisation and structure of a too rigid and past minded army, but it should have changed with the brigadisation and the professionalisation of the army.

The funny hats are just... berets. Yes. It´s the kind of oversized berets the basques use(d) to wear. Large berets are a bit old style, but they are still in use. The ertzaintza (Basque police http://www.ertzaintza.net) still use a version of it.
Herés a picture of a 1936 uniform of the Basque Police:

wow excellent pics! woot I love the pics of the mirage and the rafael! I always wondered y the french and germans left a gun out of the original design of the tigre. Almost all other choppers of this type have guns(apache, havoc, rooivalk, cobra, even the mangusta has added a gun). I know the French have added a gun to the second version they are procuring but why not make it an integral part of the original design?
Nice pic's :D
French Army have many advanced and unique style weapons "made in france".

The 30 mm gun was a French requirement from the very beginning of the program (ground support version or HAP). Correct me if I am wrong but the Bundeswehr only ordered the antitank version (called "UHT"l) for medium range engagement against hords of Soviet armors ;) They thought they did not need a gun (out of range). Then the Berlin Wall collapsed, a new warfare erupted and Close Air Support suddenly became the turning point of the battle.
The GIAT gun is an outstanding weapon and the military were so pleased during the test they reconsidered it at the main weapon against flying aircrafts. Together with the sensors, the gun could achieve a 50 % hit rate against a helicopter at 1 000 m (0.6 miles) with only 10 rounds!

i don't see why the french spend money on weapons. It's not like like they have the balls to use them.
Do you know at least anything about french History and military?
They sometimes had bad military leaders, but always had courage.
it was just a joke
here's another
French Military History in a Nutshell
