I wonder if you guys can help me out with some things i have been thinking about;

Do people really shout 'fire in the hole' when tossing a grenade into a bunker/room?

Are you trained to remove the pin from grenades with your teeth?

What's the official line on strapping your smokes to the side of your helmet?

Are you trained to use the entrenching tool in close combat?

Any pointers greatly appreciated...

We train people how to use their e-tool (or any other blunt object) in close quaters combat. I think there are some pictures of us training in the photos section with kali sticks.

None of that is to say that most people here are profient in those skills though.

Do people really shout 'fire in the hole' when tossing a grenade into a bunker/room?

A: No, the correct thing to say would be - "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire"

Are you trained to remove the pin from grenades with your teeth?

A: That's for amateurs. Real soldiers use them as earrings

What's the official line on strapping your smokes to the side of your helmet?

A: It's OK, as long your name is Charlie Sheen

Are you trained to use the entrenching tool in close combat?

A: Yes, but you should also consider using other gardening tools which might be equally, or more, effective

Any pointers greatly appreciated...[/b]

I think the pull weight of a pin on an M67 frag is about 5 pounds. It would be too much hassle to pull it out with your teeth p-)

I was trained to use the pin from the grenade for hand to hand, and can dig a foxhole by wielding an e-tool with my teeth.

I wonder if you guys can help me out with some things i have been thinking about;

Do people really shout 'fire in the hole' when tossing a grenade into a bunker/room? No, I was trained to imitate a crusty 'Clint Eastwood' voice and snarl "Anyone who don't wanna get blown to bits better clear on out the back..." Either that or I prance into the enemy bunker like a f**king fairy and say in my Richard Simmons voice "Look out! I'm gonna fire in you're hole!"

Are you trained to remove the pin from grenades with your teeth? Yes, but now I'm only able to use my gums.

What's the official line on strapping your smokes to the side of your helmet? I prefer to strap a Claymore mine to my helmet and let California Joe hold the 'clacker'.

Are you trained to use the entrenching tool in close combat? Yes but it sucks because I have to stop entrenching, then go engage in close combat, then just when I think the combat has moved off to a more reasonable range and it looks like I can go back to entrenching in peace...yep you guessed it, here they come again for more close combat...sheesh!

Any pointers greatly appreciated...

I think in close combat i would just whip a grenade at a guys face, that would be cool, then I would throw my pistol and helmat at him too. :D

Along the lines of the shovel thing, kicking people in the balls in combat is recommended if it will help win. p-)

If you end up throwing your pistol and your helmet there is something wrong with you.

"Fire in the hole" was shouted when throwing a grenade into a tunnel or hole. Sometimes tunnels have more than one entrance and if your buddy is checking out another entrance or hole then it's a polite warning.

You seldom hear that when someone throws a grenade through a door or window or hole in wall. That might be very "hollywood".

I was not trained to use my entrenching tool as I was a tanker and my entrenching tool was only removed from it's case for inspection. I was proficient with my P-38. Probably only the old timers here even know what that is.
