Deranged Moonbat Shoots Airman on Fourth of July
LGF reader ciaospirit relates an awful story of a suicidal anti-military leftist who made a statement on the Fourth of July by shooting an airman from McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey:

Hey, Lizards, prayer time. My son’s best friend, Jon, who’s in the Air Force stationed in New Jersey at Fort Dix/McGuire Air Force Base was shot by a crazed anti-military white guy on Independence Day and he remains in critical condition. He had been on leave here in Ohio and got back to his home off base and was unpacking stuff from his car when this 22 year old guy walked up to him and asked him if he lived in the house. When Jon said yes, the guy said “not any more” and shot him point blank in the chest. He tried to shoot him again, but his gun jammed. Jonathan made it into the house. The guy then shot himself. Turns out the guy left a couple of suicide notes stating how much he hated the military and he wanted to go out making a statement, so he chose to make his statement on Independence Day trying to kill a soldier. We are very worried about our Airman. He’s the sweetest, nicest, do anything for ya kid and he’s like a son to me. He’s been to Iraq and Afghanistan on our behalf and then gets shot in his own driveway here in the U.S by an anti-war, anti-American lunatic. This is gut wrenching.

Here’s the Associated Press version of the story, which leaves out all the details about the shooter’s motivations:

WILLINGBORO, N.J. - July 5, 2007 - An airman from McGuire Air Force Base was in critical condition after being shot by another man who then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide, officials said.

According to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, Matthew J. Marren, 22, of Pennsauken, drove to the Willingboro home that the airman, Jonathan Schrieken, 22, was renting at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Marren got out of his vehicle and shot Schrieken, who was outside the house, one time in the chest, using a small-caliber firearm. Marren then turned the gun on himself.

Schrieken was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was in critical condition Thursday, said Angel Lopez from the McGuire public affairs office. She said Marren was not affiliated with the military.

Schrieken is a loadmaster with the 6th Airlift Squadron based at McGuire, officials said. “During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers go out to Airman Schrieken,” said Col. Harold Rice, 305th Operations Group commander said in a statement. “We wish him a speedy recovery.”

Marren was taken to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro where he was ****ounced dead.

On the plus side, by killing himself he reduced his carbon footprint.

Gee, I wonder why CNN wasn't all over this story.

I hope the airman recovers quickly and completely.

Suicidal gunman ‘angry at the government’

By DAVID LEVINSKY

WILLINGBORO — The Pennsauken man who shot and wounded a member of the U.S. Air Force before killing himself left suicide notes that indicated he was “angry at the government and wanted to make a statement” on Independence Day, one of the man’s relatives said yesterday.

Matthew J. Marren, 22, of Walnut Avenue, drove to a home on Windsor Lane rented by Senior Airman Jonathan Schrieken, 22, at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Marren got of this vehicle, found Schrieken outside the house, shot him once in the chest with a small-caliber firearm, then turned the gun on himself, said Burlington County First Assistant Prosecutor Ray Milavsky.

Marren was ****ounced dead at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro later Wednesday night.

Schrieken was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where was listed in critical but stable condition yesterday afternoon, Milavsky said.

Schrieken is stationed at McGuire Force Base. He works as a loadmaster for the 6th Airlift Squadron.

Marren’s aunt, Terina Henderson of Trion, Ga., said she spoke to Marren’s mother yesterday who told her Marren left two notes, one in his home and one in his car, indicating he was upset with the government.

She said she did not know the exact wording in the notes, but said Marren was “mad at the government and wanted to make a statement … that’s why he did what he did on the Fourth of July.”

She did not know if Marren knew Schrieken or whether Marren shot him because he was affiliated with the military.

The circumstances and motive for the shooting were under investigation, Milavsky said yesterday. He confirmed the existence of two suicide notes, but declined to discuss the contents due to the ongoing investigation.

“I can confirm that two notes were left and that they were indicative of an individual suffering from mental-health problems,” he said.

Henderson said Marren formerly lived in Willingboro, but she did not know if he graduated from high school there.

“He had some problems with the law in the past, but I thought he had turned himself around,” Henderson said, adding she last saw him in November.

She said Marren’s mother resides in Moorestown.

An autopsy yesterday confirmed Marren’s death resulted from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Milavsky described Marren as “emotionally troubled.” He said detectives have not determined why Schrieken was shot or whether the two men knew each other.

“We’re looking at the motivations, but have not established a connection between the two men,” Milavsky said.
Other persons were present at the home at the time of the shooting.

They were not injured, Milavsky said.

A spokeswoman for McGuire Air Force Base was not able to provide information on Schrieken yesterday afternoon.

She said Marren was “in no way affiliated with the military.”

A resident of a home near the site of the shooting said Schrieken lives with several other men at the ranch-style home where the shooting took place.

“They’re all good boys,” said the neighbor, who declined to be named. “They leave for work early in the morning and then come home late in the evening. I’ve never known there to be any problems with them.”

Col. Harold Rice, commander of the 305th Operations Group, thanked Willingboro police and paramedics for their quick response to the incident.

“During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers go out to Airman Schrieken. We wish him a speedy recovery,” Rice said in a statement.

Angry at the government, huh. Well at least he didn't blow up a federal building like that right winger did. TheMongoose is right, forget left or right it's just ****ing nutters.

Hopefully a speedy recovery for airman Schrieken.

This is downright sick in every sense of the word. To think that someone would go out and shoot a good soldier because of different political views or any reason is just sickening. My thoughts and prayers go out for the airman, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

As does trying to tie this crime to the 'left' and the 'anti-war' movement. Nothing in the OP proves such claims. The guy was clearly just am 'emotionally unstable' nut who was angry with government. Sounds more like an anarchist than a liberal. I suppose Timothy McVeigh is a liberal as well now? You know since we can apply that label to anyones who offends...

Aside from a child molester I can't imagine a more disgusting twisted excuse for a human being. Suicide was too good for that turd. Hope the airman gets well soon.

****ing weirdos...I tell you what, I hope they find a planet that all these w**kers can bugger off to, and soon so as they can leave the rest of us in peace.

Best wishes to the Schrieken family

My best wishes go to the airman, hope he recovers quickly and nicely. As for the gunman, I think he's done more damage than progression to his screwed up school of thought.

Yeah man, they are screwy. Of course, using this guy to represent them as a group os sort of like using Cho to represent gun owners. :|

Yes, because he formed his twisted views in a vacuum.

Yes, because he formed his twisted views in a vacuum.

No, but neither does it mean his views were part of any sort of coherent or rational ideology. 'The Government' is a common theme of paranoid delusions, and that seems about the case here. The guy was crazy, and acted on his delusions in a violent and tragic manner.
