Why is it that some Canadians are equiped with a C7A1 and some of 'm with the C7A2? Is it because they serve in another unit, or maybe some ather reason?

Master Corporal Steve Lessard (left) and Sergeant Frederic Caron (right), members of 3rd Battalion Royal 22nd Regiment Battalion Group (3 R22R Bn Gp), in front of a cave while taking part in Operation Damocles in the mountain areas West of Kabul.

The operation resulted in destroying a large quantity of artillery rounds and various types of ammunition found in the ammunition's cache.

This operation is in line with the ISAF mandate of contributing to a safe and secure environment in Kabul and its environs.

They are issued C8? why not the C7. Is it because of all the cave work they do?

From what I am able to glean, a lot of troops would swap their C7s for C8s if they knew that they were going to be working in caves or in tight spots. Regarding the C7A2, they have been issued to a select units for operational testing. One unit testing the A2 are the Royal 22nd, better known as the Vandoos.

Btw, nice pics!

Its because they are just phasing them in as they come. Most you see with the A2 are just in the field testing stages. On both Roto's to the ISAF mission there have been several differnt guns being field tested, many varients and mods to the c7(m16) and the c8(m4).

In regards to the arid CADPAT, its because the Vandoos leadership thought it more beneficial to move to the arid version. Previously the woodland CADPAT was used to allow Canadian personell to stick out from the rest of the personell in ISAF. It was used as a tool in winning over the Hearts and Minds of the local population. Now I think the reasoning is that standing out from the rest may be dangerous especially seeing how Canada has been mention as one of 6 target nations for terrorist attacks by al queda.

Godo pics, its good to see the Aussies getting paid some attention. The Styers look pretty cool. Those guys are part of a security det for Aus dignitaries and staff in Iraq. Well, most of them were anyway.

Maybe im not paying to much attention to some of the pics, but there does not seem to be to many pics of the Aussies. Are they in support roles in Iraq or are they doing any front line patrols and/or raids?

Our SF troops (SF Commandos in direct action roles and SASR in recon roles) pulled out after the cessation of major hostilities with the formal Iraqi military. We sent about 150 SASR guys and about 80 (i think) Commandos for csar, DA, VIP protection, and QRF roles. Our psuedo navy SF guys, the Clearance Divers were also there and i think they continue to do some EOD work over there. we never sent out TAG teams though staff from both commandos and SASR cycle through the TAG East and TAG West respectively. The guys that are there now (and the ones in the photos with the Styer) are a security det from 2rar. We also have some air traffic controllers and Air Field Defence Guards over there. At its height I think the Aussie contribution was around 2000 which includes a couple warships.
