I bought something today and didn't check my change. Turns out I got back more money than I should have,

Anyways, do you ever check your change after you purchase something?

Being Canadian i tend to be too polite and give back the extra change.
Although a few times i have gotten a 20 instead of a 10 and i was a long way away when i realized.

I have math skills that are close to pathetic, so i don't want to embarras myself, so i just stick it in my pocket and be on my way.

90% of the time I don't check my change unless I need to withdraw from the bank $500 or something like that, then I check my change. I trust people too much.

What I do is stand in front of the cashier and count my change to make sure I have the correct amount. When the cashier says, "Sorry, could you move?", I pretend not to hear him or her.

I do check. I am very efficient, and my math skills are adequate.

I feel like it's rude to count my change in front of the person that gave it to me... like I think they're too stupid to give me the right change, so I usually don't. But if I feel like it's not enough I check.

I don't usually. Except when I notice £4 change missing from a £5 note :|

I got a 50 back instead of a 10 back at McDonalds. I gave the money back because I'm compassionate towards businesses.

I am Jewish, 'nuff said.

On a serious note, I agree with Nawlins. Unless a huge amount of money is involved (like, when i sell BLOCK of stogs for 40-50 bucks) I dont check immediately, because I am embarrased.

I never check my change, I just take their word for it. I'm sure sometimes they give me more/less.

even if you give them a £5 for a 77p drink, and they only give you a 23p change. You ask 'where the rest of it is', and they say 'rest of what'. 'Of the change', 'I gave you all the change', 'I'm missing £4 worth of change here mate', 'but you only gave me £1' 'No I didn't' ' Yes you did' 'No I didn't'. Eventually someone in the que behind me backed me up by saying that I had given him £5. I think he, just wanted to get to the counter sooner.

I do check when there's a larger amount money involved. People make mistakes. Usually I'm honest enough to give money back if they have given me too much. I used to work at this cafe and our boss would throw a fit and tearing up the roof and accuse people of being dishonest every time it didn't add up, even for the smallest amount.

The exception would be when I'm at the pub. Maybe it's because my inhibition treshold is lower or the fact that alcohol is so damn expensive...
