We are all being urged to stock up on the essentials in case there is a terrorist attack or natural disaster.
Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore wants everyone in the CBD to have a “Go Bag” packed with maps, running shoes, energy bars and sticky tape.
200,000 booklets will be distributed today, advising everyone of what to do in case of an emergency.
“It's a matter of doing what we can which is practical and responsible," Ms Moore said.
"A serious emergency such as a fire, hazardous materials incident, flood, severe storm or transport accident could cause significant disruption to the community and will require a co-ordinated and immediate response.”

Should be renamed the "F**king leg it" bag. You could always pack a compass in there so you can run over West..

Kinda wierd go bag. Why would you want running shoes over a good pair of boots? They're probably casting for some giant ****ing propel commercial, sound the alarm and they can shoot the max exodus that ensues. Can't think of much else as that is pretty ridiculous. highly doubt the majority of your population if anything like it is stateside is just going to "hoof it" outta town.

Anyhow should always have a go bag, just in case, but look at military related info rather then this yuppie distributed bull****.

I dunno, if you Aussie's head out with your go bags full of juicy items isn't the Lord Humungus and his smegma crazies and gayboy berzerkers just going to take all your stuff? Well, unless Max shows up to drive your rig or something.

Sounds like they're planning an impromptu compulsory orienteering event....

It's the sticky tape that worries me.

I read that Australia has sustained a devastating drought this year, could the continued drought be linked to eventual evacuation?

Kinda wierd go bag. Why would you want running shoes over a good pair of boots?
Probably because most people will lack a pair of comfortable walking shoes when on the run? Also cheaper than buying some Haix boots or whatever.

I find it interesting because here the government encourages the exact opposite. They are telling people to stockpile food and supplies for up to 14 days instead of making a bug-out bag.

Looking forward to a scan of the Brochure.

Mate, the drought really knocked the farmers around- however, im currently sitting on my parents farm and we have lakes forming in the paddocks.. so i dont see any evacuation for a while yet p-)
unfortunately, areas further inland havent recieved this rainfall, some of these areas have been in "drought" for over 5 years, and some areas have been temporarily flooded (im talking towns half buried in water). thats just the nature of farming and the land that we call Australia, if its not drought, its flooding, and if its not flooding, its a bloody bushfire!! it was an exceptionally tough year, but theres hope for us yet..
most of our population is on the east coast, which is the greener area of Australia, there is little going on in the centre of Australia, a few cattle stations and mines..
i dont see any evacuations, because farmers are already planning for the next summer, and the suspected drought conditions.
were you suggesting we whack a rubber dingy and a map of the Pacific into the "go bag"? p-)

It'll depend on the main risks. If you are at risk of severe weather that disrupts power supplies, causes an increase in accidents etc or generally pushes the limit of the emergency services, but without immediately endangering people in their homes, the best thing is to have a stockpile of canned food and water plus some form of heating/insulation, and med supplies. It's best then for people to stay at home and not add to the volume of traffic and potential problems for the emergency services.

If you're somewhere that flash floods are a big risk (like Hull :)) or brush fires are common, you may need to leave home in a hurry, hence a 'go bag'.
