Since a political debate about countries always becomes polarised extreamly fast (just becouse it's about country and not ideologi and people tend to side with their countrymen), maybe an non-country-specific political debate about something current can be of some interest?

Many computer games have lately come under investigations in several countries for being to violent, showing the killings of 'innocent' or having questionable etics and moral values (...).

What is your stance on censorship and possibly banning of computer-games of various types?

Censoring / banning = bad. Could you imagine censoring the classic Scarface by replacing coke with sugar and firearms with water pistols? "Say hello to my little friend! *squirt* *squirt* Hey I got you!"

The sale of such games to should be prohibited to children, or at least those that are below the age of fourteen.

Computer Games dont kill people, people kill people.

If you are so mentally unstable that a computergame makes you wanna go outside and off people to the left and right, I think computergames arent to blame. A person that deranged would have done something whacked anyway.

Well, when violence is not the purpose of the Game itself it should be ok.

Parenting should be left to the parents. Not to special intertest "soccer-mom" groups who have nothing better to occupy their time with.

I think there was an article a long while ago, that playing 'violent' video games has an 'A Clockwork Orange' effect on people.

Far Cry? I doubt it... what could there be bannable about it? C&C Generals was banned in Germany though, along with some other games.

FarCry was really banned in germany for some stupid reason.

It is not banned, it is on the "index" for youth endangering media afaik. That means advertising isnt allowed and you can buy it only when over 18.

To get banned there are extremely high and strict standards, censorship is seen very critical here. To give you an example for a game that was banned in Germany: It was named "Concentration camp manager" made in the USA underground...
When you hear that C&C Generals was banned it is not true, it was just set on the "index". Remember when you read those "banned in germany" Storys.

But its a shame to put FarCry on the Index, the programming team is german...

Worst part about buying games in Germany: they are almost all localized and when violent almost always 'indiziert'. So instead of humans with blood you shoot robots who blead oil. Or you have humans that have green blood and bull**** like that. :|

Just order them over the Internet, nearly al play the US version. Only 12 year old kids who have to buy in Stores use the "softer" non index german.

Yeah I know most people in Germany order / download them abroad. Anyway, I don't really care since I live in the Netherlands and download my stuff anyway. Still, before I had broadband it pissed me off because computer games were often cheaper in Germany, but you'd run into the two problems I mentioned (I have no problem with the German language, but the localisations always sucked, and the whole childish editing is just lame).

Some goverments just have to much time on their hands so they end up acting like parents for other adults.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. My father had me playing Wolf3D and DOOM when I was about 4 or 5 years old. Ever since then I've been playing some quite violent games and having a blast most of the time. Am I running rampant killing people in real life because I've been "desensitized?" Quite the contrary. The fact is, as long as your parents are able to bring you up with moral values when you're young and don't just leave you in front of the computer screen in favor of such, you'll end up fine. The key point is to make it so that they're not simply playing these games 24/7 when they're young. My parents got me involved with soccer, drumming, and all kinds of **** like that. Even though I don't do most of those activities anymore I can tell you that it was beneficial just by getting me away from the computer for most of the time.
