I really dont like the front end in comparison to current HMMWVs, but it definitely has some killer ground clearance, 22 inches as opposed to the current 16 :o

Well it hasn't gotten any prettier. But that extra ground clearance will defiantly come in handy.

Looks like weights, not batteries.

Isn't one of the major complaints with the Hummer is that it needs beefed up suspension/transmission/chassis to deal with the armor they've been stacking on the poor things?

did you read the supplied article? though still speculation, i think its worth noting

Other items of note include larger air drop rings on the hood, which imply an increase in the vehicle's curb weight, and the ballast weight placed in the prototype's bed, another indication that this next-gen Humvee will be able carrier heavier loads.

Front end is ugly as sin itself. Still the front seems to be a filler until a new front end is designed, maybe they will still use the current look.

^ My thoughts exactly. Is the US looking to buy more humvees? I've been under the impression that we're not interested in them anymore.

They recently photographed a new AM General HUMVEE prototype that will be competing for the military's Future Tactical Truck System (FTTS) contract, which will produce the replacement for the current Humvee, of which some 140,000 are still in active service. Though prototypes from Lockheed Martin and other military contractors will also be submitted, this is AM General's bid to keep the Humvee in the game.

i think the whole idea is that this is a revised version that is meeting certain desired standards

this isnt just the same truck being re-submitted

The vehicles covered in the MRAP program are not HUMVEE replacements. The HUMVEE was designed to basically replace the Jeep and its design reflects that. A general multipurpose vehicle is still needed and this new HUMVEE will most likely be that vehicle.

They should just use the H2 or H3...puke! One of my friends wants a H2 or H3 but I told him they are only for soccer moms.

Here's two of the other vehicles competing for the FTTS contract:

The H3 is fairly capable offroad. If that's what he wants to use it for then I say go ahead.

The H3 looks like a Jeep Cherokee with a Hummerish front end. H1 or f%$k off...The H2 and H3 are designed for yuppies and rappers who want the image of looking badass but really have no clue what badass is. Like most 4x4 trucks purchased today, most will never leave the pavement.

One of the best terrain vehicles, Lada Niva 4x4, made in Russia, used a lot in Macedonia & Europe, 9000 euros=12,500$.

Get over it. I'm sure if he had $60,000+ to spend then maybe but it seems that he does not. I've read all the comparisons and test and believe me, the H3 is the most capable vehicle offroad in its class. Try doing some research before you type out bull****.

Nothing but a fuel hog IED sponge.

Time to retire the Humvee and split the role between an actual armored vehicle designed designed for the task (I mean WTF, its like the Army didn't learn $hit in Somalia...more than a decade to do so...idiots) and a commercially available diesel pick-up truck, minus the silly ground effect/styling crap, that are cheap and less maintenance hassles.

I wonder how many tax dollars have been spent on this abortion.
