Collecting their dog tags so their family will get the pension?
So if, for example the body was hit so bad (direct HE) and has no dog tags visible, the family would not get the pension?
That's quite sad.

Russian military has different attitudes to this kind of post-combat activities as regards to carre about troops. I will have to find articles (official!) describing the "success" in identification of dead Russians from first war 1994/95. They identified 68% of dead soldiers and consider that as a success! By the way, according to the experts (although I am always aware of "expert opinions" one of the main demoralization points to the Russiand were mutilated corpses of their own friends rotting for weeks in the streets. I wish to hear that is not true īcause otherwise must admit there is no changes since WWII.

The same was with WW2 dead soldiers. Many still unidentified.
But there is a little mistake you've made. Not 68% from total. 68% from unidentified corpses which was found on streets after end of combat in 1995. This is about one hundred bodies. If you remember this operation went completely wrong - nothing strange that this happened.

You can use online translator for this:

It states that 173 unidentified bodies from first Chechen exists. Article is from 2001. Some since that time already recognized. So i was wrong a bit but still close to truth. Note that there may be bodies of civilians and rebels among them.
But i agree that Russian authorities plagued by total disrespect to fallen.
