Identifying the manufacturer from the NSN.

I have a NSN and would like to find out which article exactly is behind this number. Google only yields me "Boots, Combat, Desert" but this does not tell me who made them or what model they are.

Is it possible to deduce the manufacturer or at least the commercial name of the product from the NSN?

This is all I found. I used to remember how to interpret NSN numbers, but I forgot a long time ago.

To the best of my knowledge the manufacture has a seperate code, if it is not on the article directly it was most likely either on the tag or the box the item was shipped with.

The NSN's will simply give you the nomenclature of the the exact item. And a different number for different sizes as well.
