The movie is not out yet, but I am curious about the timing of the production of this film and how much it is "based on a true story."
Seems sort of odd...

We have a fairly popular Mormon candidate running for the Republican nominee.
"Hollywood Left" propaganda? "Religious Right" propaganda? Or just a lack luster film by a financing group, for German production group based in Alberta, Canada?

There is a good book, The War in the West. Had to do with War in the West prior the Civil War. The Mormon war was one of them.

Which Mormon War? There were 2 or 3 of them..4? I forget. There were a lot of "wars" west of the Mississippi and even quite a few east of it. Heck, the Mormon stuff isn't even the most interesting of the whole bunch. From the Whiskey Rebellion to Nat Turner's Revolt (and TONS of others) have seen various forms of armed conflict.
I am not disagreeing about the [historical] event itself.
I am questioning the tone of it combined with America's distrust of anything Mormon. Back then, Mormon's were pretty much loathed (no offense Geezah). Are we seeing a back lash? Some of the "feelings" I get from the trailer aren't too friendly and seem a little less "doumentarian" and a lot more "get your hate on".

I don't suffer from "distrust of anything Mormons" syndrome, IMHO they are no different than any other group. What happened 150 years ago and how it effects today would probably be very minor at best.
Sometimes I think some people need a itch to scratch, a group to hate, or to blame. I see is as some form of denial of how their own lives are going.
This maybe no different than the fears of Gibson's movie on Jesus, not much will come of it.

No offence taken. Harry Reid is a convert, so not all Mormons are cut and dry, but for the most part even though we might slaughter innocent travellers traveling across the plains we're not that bad;)

Don't want to break some bad news to you, stereo typical crap is just that, one person does not say anything about a group.
There are still "old beleivers" in the Arizona Strip country. The are pretty invisible and generally as a group very little problems. The resident Deputy had something like 36 dependents.
A friend who was a social worker, always commented on the how Mormon neighor would help out their neighbors, even if that neighbor was a Mormon or not. It is their choice.
If we go back 150 years ago, we could probably nit pick about any group not being up to the standards of today.

I would not let Mormons into the office... they have tendency to lock everything in a big air-conditioned caves....
