Actually, in the USMC, women don't have to do pull-ups as part of their PFT, but rather the flexed-arm hang, which basically has them holding themselves up like so for as long as possible.

I remember some smart ass at the Baltimore MEPS complaining the girls had it easy since all they had to do was hang. The Gunnery Sergeant there made him hang outside on the pull up bar for almost an hour. We all got a good laugh out of that dip ****.
