UPDATE: Muslim debate over possible pork emissions from factory

MUSLIM families have brought a new angle to the fight against pet factory plans in Coton Meadows, claiming that possible pork emissions are against their human and religious rights.

They are looking into getting the support of The Muslim Council of Britain about the proposed plans to build the large factory and 100-foot chimney in Central Park, Rugby - which has angered hundreds of nearby residents.

Butchers Pet Care said it can 'almost 99 per cent guarantee' that no emissions will reach the Coton Meadows residential area.

But the Coton Park Residents Association said it has been contacted by Asian families concerned about the possibility that the smell of pork will drift into their gardens.

Association spokesperson Grant Scott said: "We have been contacted about this by families living locally and they are taking this issue very seriously."

Mr. Scott also added that the independent survey into possible emissions should start next week, lasting anytime between three to six weeks.

The survey has the backing and support of Butchers Pet Care.

A decision into the factory application could now be delayed until the end of September.

UPDATE: Butcher's Pet Care has asked for the following statement to be included with the story:

Butcher's Pet Care Limited was extremely disappointed to hear
inaccurate reports regarding its manufacturing process.

We would like to confirm that the majority of our natural products are beef and poultry. Pork ingredients account for less than 10 per cent of our range.

We would like to reiterate that we do not burn any animal materials.

Raw ingredients are mixed together and filled into cans. The full cans are then sealed and cooked in a large sealed pressurized vessel.

At Coton Park we plan to introduce a state-of-the-art odour extraction and management system through the chimney stack. An environmental impact report has already concluded that emissions at the proposed Coton Park site should not have an adverse impact on air quality and odour levels.

We are pleased to confirm that we are also working closely with the Coton Park Residents' Association to fund an independent review of our environmental impact report.

The next thing you know, they'll be wanting to ban others from cooking bacon and sausage links for breakfast. These people think that it's only their air to breathe.

We have Muslims demanding that no particles of Pork reach the atmosphere and Hasidic Jews wanting to hang bloody wires from every lamppost. The most stupid protest I have heard of recently was a bunch of Pentecostals trying to picket a *** shop, like *** is a new corruption.

The plan for the factory is in an established industrial estate next to junction 1 of the M6 and near junction 19 of the M1. The M1 being Britain’s biggest motorway.

Butcher’s Pet Care is just the name. They are not a slaughter house but a canning factory for pet food.

Well we all know what the solution is. Obviously the world will be better when the umma is protected by the adoption of sharia law everywhere they want to live.

It's not a matter of trying to fit in when the certain group arrives. As soon as a critical mass is reached, the demand is made that the original population bend to the newcomers' rules.

It would seem that its not just the local Muslims that intend to stop construction of this plant, looks like its been ongoing for a wee while.

Im just wondering what the problem is, is it they dont want to smell the pet food factory, or they object to the thought of pig "bits" floating through the air. Odour does not equal pig perse.

I guess sadly, no matter how much science there is, its just a new tool to add to the CAVE peoples (citizens against virtually everything) arsenal. That and the sad PC fraction of the world.

the hassadic jewish weird wire setup wouldn't actually bother me
most people would whine about a smelly pet food company and i bet theres some "community spokesman " whipping people up into a frenzy about this one
