Ok, seriously, I'm no Bush fan, but some of the stuff people post here is simply ridiculous and certainly does nothing to help their credibility. I'm perfectly willing to admit that I am wrong on things when the other side discusses things reasonably and calmly. If I was a big Bush fan, reading some of the posts on here lately would certainly not win me over to the Bush-critizing side.

Example: Hitler-Bush comparisons. I'm sorry, but the only thing those accomplish is to piss people off and overshadow any good arguments one has. Bush hasn't committed genocide, bad argument, moving on.

If we're going to critize Bush, Rumsfeld, or whoever, cite some reasonable reasons. And this is by no means lefty-bashing. I think everyone here knows that I am far from conservate on many issues, but give me a break. I'm the first to say that Bush and Rumsfeld are arrogant and incompetent, but I try to cite reasons-not listening to advisors, ignoring Shinseki's troop strength estimates, etc. But some of the stuff on here is ridiculous.

Hitler-Bush comparisons and other, similar things won't win people any sympathy from me.

And while I don't know the content of the PMs to Beowulf, I would advise people not to make PMs-or posts-like some people have to moderators. For example, don't send PMs to Argyll making derogatory statements.

I don't think Beowulf or any of us other mods lock threads for kicks. We have tried very hard to avoid being "thought police." I don't think Hood bans people just for fun. So if Beowulf wants someone gone, I might have to trust that there is a strong enough reason for it. And why not have a post like this? This is the closest thing to democracy one will find on the web. I appreciate that Beowulf has allowed us to put our input into this discussion instead of going unilateral, though if he really wants to go unilateral, that's b's business.

The incessant flame wars are getting tiresome, and more than a few people I've talked to are seriously considering leaving the message board for at least a long while, if not for good. Myself included. And it's not because Beowulf locked too many posts, and it's not because people here disagree with me, and it's not because there aren't a whole lot of great people here. It's because the good is too easily overshadowed by the flame wars, the threats, and ridiculous comments.

I'd appreciate it if all sides toned it down a notch and used only credible, respectable examples in their discussions (there is a difference between discussion and flame war complete with threats).

I think it's more like "amicus curae" (I spell that right?) or lobbying. Maybe make recommendations, but in the end, it's not even up to us mods. We don't ban people. Though perhaps b was hoping that people would behave on their own accords. People should have to be threatened with a banning for them to tone it down a notch.

Let me say that again-people shouldn't need to be threatening with a banning for them to behave. They should behave because they're mature and intelligent people. There shouldn't be a need for posted rules on here, people should know without Beowulf having to say how to act in public.
