Just interested, please list what country, regiment etc you were in, and if you are still joining then the same applies ;)
I'm 18 years old and I have lived in Amsterdam my whole life, after trying to join the Dutch army and getting told to piss off because they were full (damn cutbacks) I decided to make use of my British passport (both my parents are from Belfast). I started the application process for joining the British army last August and I start basic at the end of July. I have applied to be a naval gunfire observer wich is part of 29 commando (artillery commandos),

I did my compulsory service in France in 1993/94 in the recon squadron (EED 2)of the 2eme DB (deuxieme division blindee).
I was a P4 and later VBL comander in the Milan platoon.
Actually we got more jobs to do as guests of the 3eme REI in French Guiana, on border patrol and protection of the CSG (centre spatial guyanais).
Since I came in Israel ( in 2001) i`m a rescue operator in cool and quiet unit :D , in the reserve.

Well im 17 years old... soon i will join the IDF but now in the summer i have a selection pash for S13 (Israeli Seals) its a special boarding school for 13 days that there you dive and get 2 stars of diving and do cool stff with the memembers of S13 and learn about S13 and after that you have a selection pash for S13 (the thoughest in IDF), of course i did many tests so they will see if im fit to be in the gadna (psychotechnical test and medical tests). It will be very hard so if i wont pass it next year i will able to be in a special day ("yom sayarot" - recon day?) that filter people that want to enter to the selection pash of different special units (shaldag, matkal, S13...) and its must like a competition and the best of the best get the ability to be in the selection pash of the best units.... anyway a long way but im training hard and who knows mabye next year i will be in a SF or mabye i will be in a regular unit...still its a privilege to serve my country and to serve in the IDF woot

Now that's a pretty impressive career, I must say. Judging by that, you'll have to be at least a colonel?
Do you have to apply for airsofters, or do they come to you?
And maides? So you served in the same unit with permskii and mustamato?
Honestly, I'm just kidding :D :D

I did my (at that time) 10 months of compulsory service from July '98 to April '99 in the Bundeswehr.
I was in alpha platoon, 4th company, tank battalion 383, armored infantry brigade 13 (since then dissolved).
My position/function was gunner on a Leopard 1A5 mbt (hence my nickname).
My final rank was Obergefreiter (E3-equivalent).

I met more than a few when I was in Israel and their dishwashing technique was second to none... :lol:Nahal has many parts and many different types of units to it and it behooves you to understand that, for trust me I believe what you said and indeed its funny ;) though it has nothing to do with the good COMBAT units of Nahal!!

As for the American thing (or any other foreign nationality), you are factually incorrect, I suggest you PM me what you think you know and I will discuss what I know further there.
Anyways that and also a sparring between different units, especially from a kid like yourself, should not be on a public international forum, so lets not get into it here.
Again keep that in other forums (Like in fresh.co.il) or in PM’s.

Served my year of national service 2000-2001 as an ERYX gunner in first B-coy, then A-coy Telemark Bataljon, Norwegian army. Then did a one year tour to Kosovo where i for the most operated in the Drenica area again under A-coy. Contract ran out 2002, had two years civvy and heading in tomorrow (10.05) for selection back into my old unit, i just got so tired of the civilian nothingness! p-)
Four days at camp doing some "gibush'ish" thing and then back in in July to commence selection proper for two months and then join my new squad, if successful... ;)

I did my PRMC(Potential Royal Marines Course) last week. I withdrew myself because halfway through it I decided I wasn't ready for the committment of going through the longest, hardest basic infantry training in the world(I'm 17). Though I most certainly will do my best to pass when I feel I'm ready for it, most likely in a year or two. After college.

Good luck with that!
I graduate from high school next year and I'll do NROTC in college. When I get my commission I'll put in a billet for BUD/S. I'll have Corpsman as my second choice since the Navy only takes 50 officers a year for BUD/S. If I went SEAL, I'd still go through Special Operations Combat Medic (SOCM) school at the Joint Special Operations Medical Training Center (JSOMTC) after BUD/S to be a SEAL Corpsmen.
I have a "gibush" to the filght school in the summer (finel selection phase , 6 day long). my second priority is the peratroopers(Tzanhanim) and the third is Nahal ;)

I am graduating from the University of Wisconsin this week. July 14 I head to Fort Knox for Basic Training after which I will head to Fort Sam Houston for my 91W (Health Care Specialist | i.e. medic) training. Really wanted to do 11B or possibly 18B but I am red/green color blind.
As you may or may not know, you need regular color vision for 18B (or any SF for that matter) and you need color discrimination of red/green for 11B. I was told I could get retested for red/green color discrimination by a doctor outside of MEPS. I didn’t bother because I was told there were no 11B slots open.
Depending on whose figures you believe, color blindness seems to occur in about 8% - 12% of males of European origin and about one-half of 1% of females.
I will possibly put in an OCS packet a year after I complete my training.

Question, do you think greece is ready for the olympics?
You mean as far as security is concerned or the games?
Well the games one way or the other are going to happen, no question. They like to make a lot of fuss in the press but even in Sidney things were still getting built 15 days beforehands.
As far as security is concerned is anyone ever ready for terrorist attack?
What I am afraid with all the security measures it will take a lot of the spirit and fun out of the games. People will pass through airport-style security gates to get in the venues, have their bags checked etc. not pleasant atmosphere and I hope the Athens Olympics won't remembered more for the security measures than the games themselves. And that is if nothing happens. :(
Anyway that is discussion for another topic so I repeat the question:
WHY DON'T WE SEE ANY OF THE MORE VOCAL MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM (I won't mention names, we all know who they are) IN THIS THREAD? ARE THEY ALL WORDS AND NO ACTION?

Why, because of the blue beret? or the blue scarf?
Seriously, I think you are right. Better to go MP than SP.

1977 - 1980 Nahal Shiryon (doesn't exist anymore - Tiranim)
1980 - 1981 Nahal Infantry
1982 - 1990 Northern Command operations.
1993 - today Israel Police.
I have nightmares that one of the Hizbulloh tanks used to be mine.

Yess. Nahal used to have an armoured unit, attached to Pikud HaDarom (Southern Command). It was one of the standing gdudim in the "Sinai Defence Force". I trained on Tiranim (captured T-55s) but had friends in Shermans (I guess Super Shermans). I think the Shermans went to Sa'ad Haddad in Tzadal (South Lebanese Army).
By Shalom HaGalil it was closed down, some of us returned to the Nahal and others went to the real Armoured Corps.
Mishteret Yisrael (Israel Police), what is it the Americans say "its a living." Once upon a time I worked Mahoz Beer-Sheva, but I've moved up in the world since then.

I was deployed to Kyrgyzstan with the Royal Danish Air Force - Security Force. It's something I definitely don't regret. However all the US Air Force - Security Force personel I spoke to said that they regretted joining the security forces.
