[sarcasm] I'm sure its a complete accident Sarkozy has chosen NH for a vacation [sarcasm].
The only question is which candidate will he endorse, and in what indirect way is he going to do it? Personally, I think he's stumping Republican as he could have vacationed in a non-Republican dominated primary state.

I think you need to take off the tin foil hat. You reading way too much into this. I think he is coming just as a goodwill sign to help repair relations between the US and France. I doubt this a subtlety endorsement for or against either the Republicans or Democrats

prustin, I have 2 questions for you.
1. Do you really think the average american voter even knows who the hell Sarkozy is?
2. Why do you think any american would give a damn about what the president of france said in an american election?

+1
And he won't endorse any candidate, he will congratulate the winner, whoever he is.
And he can choose any place for his vacation. I don't give a damn.
Don't forget he's pro-American , but not as much as you think he is.

The article did mention that the region doesn't suffer the anti-French phsycosis so prominent in many parts of the US, so maybe it was the only place in the US he could come to? Would be a good opportunity for Republicans to extend a welcoming hand to an ally they've alienated and insulted for the past 4 years. Plus, Sarkozy could probably give them pointers on how to win elections again.

You lot need to stop thinking the world revolves around the US.
You remind me of my own third-worlders, who were drawing all sorts of conclusions from Sarko's visit to Malta. The truth is he went there because that's where his billionaire buddy's yacht was moored.

Plus on a side note, don't hold me too this, but if I remember correctly there was an article in The Economist earlier this year as a run up to the French elections and I could swear it said that Sarkozy has taken quite a few vacations to the New England area and in particular around Boston

The answer and the question are not relevant. Sarkozy's visit will get massive media attention in New Hampshire, whose primary is fast approaching. Most people who will participate in the primary will be watching the coverage.
2. Why do you think any american would give a damn about what the president of france said in an american election?[/quote]
The answer and the question are not relevant to my posting. I questioned how me might indirectly stump. I don't expect him to say anything directly.

Yeah, well there's a bit of difference between Malta and the US. Particularly where French foreign policy is concerned.

In France, the deputy of Aisne Rene Dosière (app. PS) asked "which" paid the holidays of Mr. Sarkozy in the United States, considering their cost higher than his annual remuneration.
"Officially, the remuneration of the president, whom it fixes itself, is wholesale 6.000 euros per month", pointed out the elected official. According to Penny Smiley, the villa had been put in hiring by the agency for 30.000 dollars per week.

Maybe because nobody cares if you didn't know about his trip. He is going there for holiday and maybe to meet George at a barbecue.

Le Monde says that Sarkozy and his family are invited by a friend who pays the bill for the two weeks (apparently 60 000 dollars). Now, it would be interesting to know who that friend is.
