An undated handout photo supplied by the Washington Post shows U.S. Army Specialist Charles A. Graner, Jr., at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison. Graner is among a group of soldiers who face charges that include conspiracy, dereliction of duty, cruelty toward prisoners, maltreatment, assault and indecent acts. The first of seven U.S. soldiers charged with abusing detainees at Iraq (news - web sites)'s Abu Ghraib prison will be court martialed later this month in a public trial, the U.S. military said on May 9, 2004. So far, seven soldiers face criminal charges in connection with the abuse, and a further seven commissioned and non-commissioned officers have received written reprimands, a measure that can effectively end military careers. The abuse scandal has come at an awkward time for the U.S. administration as it prepares to hand sovereignty over to an Iraqi government on June 30 even as the military is trying to put down a militia uprising across much of southern Iraq. There were no rebels at the stadium (except perhaps those who detonated the bomb). The guy is pr-Russian Chechen soldier. There are 2 possible explanations why he is shooting.

- he is scared and panicking
- he is shooting in the air to make the crowd freeze and stop running around, and injuring others.

Take your pick.

Any one with a firearm in Israel has either to be or have been in the military, or in some rare cases take a expensive and lenghty programme.

What kind of grenades are those? Look similar to old German style ...

Well, it´s a russische panzerhandgranaten, ww2-design with a HEAT warhead,
given that the man throwing it manages to hit a Stryker or something similar with light
armour it would still be effective. I assume that in urban areas those can be thrown
from roof´s and so forth.

This guy is a bit of a joke. Although his face would ward off any attacker.

Why is he a joke? Those Chechens are born with AK-47s in their mouths. As a matter of fact, I think they actually shoot their way out of the womb.

They also seem to like shooting at anything that explodes, as noted earlier. Don't set off any firecrackers in Chechnya.

Any one with a firearm in Israel has either to be or have been in the military, or in some rare cases take a expensive and lenghty programme.

Okay. That is what I was asking. Is there limitations on which types of weapons civilians or ex-combatants can carry? And does the military still own them, or are the weapons privately owned by the settlers?

Not trying to start anything negative here, I'm honestly curious.

As far as I know, the system dosen`t correspond to any kind of "logic" as of the conceilbility or lethality of the weapons, you have 3 categories.
-Privately owned Hand guns semi auto and revolver, whatever the caliber from 22lr to 0.5 auto : private license, you can get one wherever as long aas you can proove the need (living in a border area, te territories, having a danerous job and so), pass a serious background check and some proficiency class and test. some SMG or ful auto ppistols might go in this category too, but i`m not sure.
Your license to own and carry is to be renewed annualy, and can be revoked for a lot of reasons.
-Company owned fire arms, from the security guard of your supermarket to the body guard of tourist groups, the weapons are usually owned by companies that ae getting group license, and then apply individually to every guard. you can find there everything from 032 auto to m16.
-the firearms of the protection groups and civil guard of villages, settlements and kibbutzim, you`ll find both assault weapons (a mix of FAL, USM1, M1 garand, m16, galil and AK family), usually for protection of groups, you`ll find USM1 only, because of the 7.62 short less dangerous in crowds.

There is special quick responce unit out of the people from settlement , and they are allowed to hold M16's . "Responce unit" . All the others allowed to have pistols .
There are also guarding firm people there , if i am not mistaken.

Possibly an AGM 65 E/F Maverick, the grey colours usually are associated with USN/USMC weapons

AGM-65E mavericks have a light gray body with red circles around the nose. The top piece has a yellow stripe, so it's probably a Mk-82, or Mk-83. And those serial number tags are found on mostly dumb-bombs.

http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/ships/carriers/g-washington/gw-ord0721.jpg

But the size of those fragments is not typical of those munitions, so i have no idea really.

Here are some Mk-83s:

The yellow banding is just to denote HE IIRC,all Live munitions have this, and inert have blue banding

Seoulstriker

IIRC, the Mavericks do not have yellow banding, but red banding. This might have to do with the charged plasma directed charge nature of the warhead, but I'm not sure. I just pointed out the yellow-banding because Mavericks do not have it.

Yep,they could very well be the rear parts of the missile, looking closely at the debris, they have that "drab/grey"look about them.

Though Why use an Anti Tank missile on a building, doesn't make sense, even the HE composites of Hellfire are not as powerfull as a good ole Mav are they?

Could they also be from TOW missile?

The body frame seems a bit to large for a Tow. Past experiences show the Apache jocks take sometimes the easy way with their on board weapons :| Remember during Desert Storm, one Army officer was relieved from command after authorizing the use of Hellfire against trucks in a non dangerous environment, where the 30 mm Chain Gun would have done the job equally but... for much more less USD

During the first days of OIF, USMC Cobras have been seen firing Tow at small huts following a single burst of AK...

According to the Geneva convention, as long as a resistance movement has a uniform method of distinguishing themselves and a clearly recognized commander, such as Al-Sadr.

The comments that most people make about uniforms and non-concealed weapons date all the way back to the Treaty of Westphalia, but the Geneva convention includes so called resistance movements.

Not that I support them in any way shape or form, and seeing every single one of them dead would be friggin outstanding, but most people seem to have the misperception that the bad guys are breaking the rules or something. The notion is ridiculous, of course they are, they're the bad guys. ;)

angry cow They (the insurgents) aren't signers of the Geneva Accords and I don't believe there is any mandate for them to follow them. On the other hand, we did sign and we have an obligation.

That said, there's still no justification for them executing unarmed civilians in convoys and/or chopping them up and displaying their parts on bridges. I also disagree with using children and other civilians as shields.

I'm not knocking you, I think we agree -just pointing out they still have a moral obligation not to commit "war crimes" just like we do.
