Dutch politician calls for ban on Koran

DUTCH anti-immigration politician Geert Wilders has called for the Koran to be banned in the Netherlands, branding it a "fascist book" in the vein of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf which legitimises violence.

Writing in Dutch daily De Volkskrant today Wilders said: "Ban this wretched book just like Mein Kampf is banned. Send a signal ... to Islamists that the Koran can never, ever be used in our country as an excuse or inspiration for violence."
Hitler's Mein Kampf, published in 1925, outlines the future Nazi dictator's racist ideology. It has been banned from sale in the Netherlands since the end of World War Two.
Ayhan Tonca, chairman of the CMO umbrella group of Dutch Muslim organisations said Wilders' comments were best ignored.
"This is typical Wilders. This is a ridiculous idea," he said
"There is not much news at the moment so he is trying to create some."
Mr Wilders, whose new party won nine seats out of the 150 in Parliament in last November's elections, is well known for his firebrand remarks on Islam.
He has warned of a "tsunami of Islamisation" in a country home to 1 million Muslims, and has lived under heavy protection since receiving death threats from Islamist militants in 2004.
Mr Wilders said an attack over the weekend by two Moroccans and a Somali on a young Iranian-born politician who heads a Dutch group for "ex-Muslims" had spurred him to write.
The attack on Ehsan Jami, 22, caused an outcry in the Netherlands, where the November 2004 murder of Theo Van Gogh, a filmmaker critical of Islam, by a Dutch-Moroccan Muslim militant led to an anti-Muslim backlash and exposed social tensions.
Issues of immigration and integration no longer top the political agenda, despite the efforts of Mr Wilders and his allies.
"Allah sees the death penalty as fitting for those who no longer believe," Mr Wilders wrote today, adding this view had fuelled the attack on Jami, now under police protection.
The Muslim holy book should be banned from sale, from use in mosques and private households, Mr Wilders added.
Earlier this year, Mr Wilders called for a vote of no-confidence in two Muslim Government ministers, questioning their loyalty to the country because of their dual nationality.
He has also campaigned to ban Muslim face veils, ban the building of new mosques and halt all Muslim immigration.
In April, Mr Wilders was warned by the Dutch anti-terrorism chief that his anti-Islam statements had stoked anger in the Middle East, and that he was going too far.

I already knew he was a retard, but he can't be serious about this one.

He's crazy, but funny. At least he's throwing out some ideas. Personally I'm not too keen on the islam (or any religion, though the islam is one of the most obnoxious) and would like to see it go as soon as possible.

he's like a rightwing version of the Socialist Party
all he does is say stupid stuff (usually about muslims) to get a negative reaction which he then uses (see they're demonizing me, vote for me ... I'm Pim Fortuyn!) to get dissapointed voters to vote for him

Without starting a curfuffle about this. I agree with the minister totally. When will people understand that this sort of behaviour by these people (muslims) has gone on too far, we have to protect ourselves from the "enemy within". It's going on all around us, and all we do is sit here and protect them from us, and not us from them. This will always be the situation unless WE do something about it, and calling it facist and other names is NOT the way to sort it. Quick, direct action is called for, but who am I to say anything eh?.:)

Just wished we all had more MP's like him in the world, then we wouldn't be in such a state!?.:bash: zeik heil, I mean bye bye lol

I also fail to see how is mein kampf so different from quran or any other book that promotes violent ideas to large fanatical crowds. If one is banned, so should the other one be too. Maybe they should lift the ban of selling mein kampf.:|

mein kampf is technically not banned in the Netherlands, the goverment (owns the rights to the Dutch version) simply refuses to reprint it

additionally religious freedom is guaranteed in the constitution, it's the very point that made us start our country

This isn’t new. It was tried in India by a lawyer just over 20 years ago. It started riots in neighbouring Bangladesh I think. His name was Chandmal Chopra and it was called the Calcutta Quran Petition, submitted to the Calcutta High Court citing Indian criminal law.

BTW I liked Pim Fortuyn. He had bottle.

hey I thought Pim Fortuyn was a good guy too, at least you could tell he actually wanted to fix this country (and yes this means getting somewhat harder on muslims) but he did have more points on his agenda

for instance he wanted to cut down on the government spending money on ... the governmet :)
Wilders on the other hand fires one rediculous question at different departments after another, all these answering these question takes time and money etc.

Fortuyn also wanted to get rid of the army in favor of a large navy, I was and am against that but he was gay so he probably had a thing for sailors so I forgive him ;)

plus Fortuyn made me chuckle :)

However thats radical, but it has a seed..
The problem with the western softness, I think, is that they allow for the ones (islamists mostlly) to cover with the umbrella of democratic rights their wish to ussurp, parasitize, spread their radical beliefs HERE, since in their orriginal countries no rights of western democracy exists at all. They can come to the west and apply their laws to have many woman, cover them with chadras, live in closed societies, take financial benefits with no intention to work or adapt, spread intolerence and build massive mosques and madresses in the middle of the Western European civilisation, whereas any westerner must obey islamic laws in their own islamic countries, respect them and, oh noes, try not to insult them in any way..lines have been crossed long ago, and I personally do not see any equality or fair matter here. Thus radicals are sometimes ussefull in a way, for they might encourage disscussion and lead to smth.
