HAMAS summer camps, long a rite of summer in Gaza have taken on a renewed significance after a political coup allowed HAMAS to take full control in Gaza from the Palestinian Authority in June. HAMAS camps act as a vital indoctrination of new membership into the organization, and a way of shoring up the popular support that swept the organization into power during general elections last year before the coup. Up to 100,000 children from the age of 7 to 16 attend the free camps and are given Hamas t-shirts and hats along with military style training, Hamas indoctrination and social outings.
