I haven't seen it, but I think I might. Kate doesn't do much for me, but you all know how I feel about Hugh Jackman. ;)

Yeah go see it, and you'll see how Dracula shouldn't be play.Leslie Nielsen was more credible.
This movie is a disgrace.

If you want anything near literary accuracy don't see Van helsing, instead rent "Bram Stokers Dracula" it is much more true to the original novel.
It's a standard summer action flick, don't go expecting anything but basic entertainment.
The fights are well done and exciting to watch, the visual effects throughout the movie are pretty cool. The story has some predictable elements, but some interesting takes on the original monster stories as well.
I watch a TON of movies. i just enjoy going to the movies, if you don't go often and only want to see really good movies then wait for Troy. I anticipate it will be a better movie, although judging by the previews they have a take on it that I will probably disagree with. It will be a standard summer action flick as well though.

the first reviews for troy are in and so far it's being described as mediocre. aside from the fight scene involving achilles and hector, the rest is nothing to write home about, or at least that's the early word. plus they have removed all of the nudity in light of the furor over the infamous superbowl nipple incident. in other words, all you ladies hoping to see mr. pitt and bana strut their stuff in the buff, you'll have to wait. same goes for the men hoping to see helen's dazzling charms. furthermore, as you alluded, many changes were made story-wise, so this version will definitely not be the illiad.
who's excited about jarmusch's coffee and cigarettes? i know i am...

^ ahh that sucks, I'll see it for sure, but i had a sneaking suspicion that they were gonna mess it up.
I just checked out the site and the trailers again.
It looks like Helen and Paris are "truly in love etc etc" and the greeks are bloodthirsty conquerors. While Trojans are noble and attractive, Greeks are greasy and brutal. (no pun intended)
Although I like Sean Bean for Odysseus, and Tyler Mane (sabretooth from x-men) as Aias.
It seems that Patroclus and the Gods have been entirely excluded from the story. I anticipate that Hollywood, has ruined yet another epic while producing an entertaining yet somewhat vacuous summer action flick.
luckily I like summer action flicks, so i'll see it anyway.

Yeah, I had really really high hopes for Troy because of Bean being cast as Odysseus. It seems like the story is through the perspective of Vergil's Aeneid instead of Homer's Iliad if they don't even include the gods. But, if it's exciting and sounds decent, I'll be seeing that one.

Homers Ilias is pretty incomplete. It starts in the middle of the war.
But imho the story without gods sucks ass.

Well, they were in the middle of a war because they were stalemated for 7 years... It's certainly incomplete in the whole history of the stalemate, i mean, who wants to hear from a bard about them not doing anything every day? But it is completely complete in the telling of the story, if that makes any sense.

Well, it's not meant to be a story about the war itself. The war serves as a backdrop for a story that is focused upon Achilles, whose rage is his "hamartia".
Sing, O goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought
countless ills upon the Achaeans.

the gods have indeed been excluded. this, however, was to be expected. a major character (clue: the original dr. lecter) falls in battle, so that's one heck of a departure from homer.
who's playing diomedes? what about aeneas?

another clue: look up michael mann's "manhunter" and find out who played dr. lecter. once you have done this, check out the actors listed for troy. said actor apparently dies in battle.
the king of kings, that's brian cox, he was also the bad guy in X men

Absolutely. The special effects are great, and the story isn't too bad... but if you don't go for anything else, go for Ms. Beckinsale in a corset and lots of weapons. Hot.
