I know since I retired from the USN in August 1991 squadrons have shifited from coast to coast...I just copy and paste the caption..and try to find general mistakes...

Operation NANOOK 07 is a Canada Command sovereignty operation taking place in the Baffin Island Coastal and the Hudson Strait areas from 7 to 17 August 2007. During this operation, Joint Task Force (North) is participating in an exercise designed to train the Headquarters in the conduct of domestic operations in support of other government departments in its area of responsibility.

Operation NANOOK 07 is a joint operation involving the deployment of a navy, army and air force personnel and resources, as well as joint support elements. This operation is being conducted in close cooperation with and the participation of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canadian Coast Guard.

It seems their intent was to make an example and to protect their domestic market, and it relates that the auction idea was brought up, but rejected for fears that they may just end up in the smuggler's hands again.

The video puts forth that these were just a small number, so maybe others could be auctioned off or otherwise used to benefit the country/charities.

Also, RIP to the fallen Philippine Marines. I don't know for how long I just stopped at those images..

Did you ever jump in mass(stick) like the picture depicts? The US , still uses a static line as far as I know in this sort of mission. Ther Chinese may be using a smaller chute. I believe the US Army still uses a 26 foot conical chute.

I was a parachute rigger for 9 of the 20 years i was serving in the USN.

Static line? Ever see paratroopers hooking up to an overheard line/wire in a picture or movie? That's a static line. It automatically opens the chute.

If you are a parachute rigger or a paratrooper you should already know these basic facts. If not I hope I helped you out!

I jumped only once. That was in Parachute Rigger school. We had to jump with our own chute we packed. We jumped from a C-130 at 1500 ft. Our LZ was some very soft hay...

And she's landing in the soft sand!...

Parachute, is my understanding. If you look above the centre of the wing there is the container that holds the chute. Wikipedia also notes that it is "recoverable by parachute".

-EDIT - just checked Yakovlev's website which states
"....RPV recovery is with the use of a parachute and shock-absorbing legs."

Russian static lines have an aditional option when jumbing of a jet powered plane. In this case there's a time delay mechanism(I think 8 seconds). Also interesting is that they jumb from the frond doorsp-)

PS When the jumb is from a prop airplane the static is set to operate like western ones.
