Sharon condition unchanged after 2 years
Sun Aug 26

JERUSALEM - Former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon remains comatose and attached to a respirator nearly two years after a devastating stroke, a spokesman for Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv said Sunday.
"There is no change in his condition," hospital spokesman David Weinberg said. Sharon, 79, was transferred to Sheba's long-term respiratory rehabilitation unit in July 2006 from Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, which treated him after his stroke in January of that year.
Since Sharon's stroke, he has undergone three brain operations, abdominal surgery and three minor surgical procedures.
Under established Jewish legal codes, it is forbidden to do anything to hasten death. But other teachings say it is permissible to remove an "impediment" standing in the way of the natural end of life, such as a feeding tube or respirator. Rabbis remain deeply divided over what constitutes an unreasonable obstacle to death.
According to Israeli medical law expert Yonatan Davies, Sharon "will only be considered dead when his heart stops beating."
Raanan Gissin, Sharon's former adviser and a close family friend, said Sharon exhibits no brain wave activity, but the family objects to disconnecting the respirator.
"Everyone in the family believes he will recover," Gissin said.

I think this post might set some peoples moral compass' spinning. A difficult situation for the family and the State. On a personal level, I would rather be disconnected if there was no brain activity for two years and I required life support systems.

That was part of the reason I stated it would be difficult not just for family but also for the State.

That, but political capital as well. The AK projectiles are going to fall on the firers, no dramas. However what the militant Islamic spin machine will make of the event is something more serious.

Some Israelis would also be happy if the plug was pulled.

He did not make friends with Gaza settlers.

He was even IIRC labelled with the big N... word by Arab as well as Israeli extremists.

I think its disgusting that they won't let him die...he is brain dead...they are just keeping his organs preserved.

Sick.

Don't mean to kick a man while he's down but Sharon is a traitor. He gave up the Gaza strip unconditionally and now the Mohammedans of Hamas are using it as a protected rocket launching zone.

Besides the points that the 2 above posts make:

Don't mean to kick a man while he's down...
Then why did you post then? If you are going to kick the guy while he is down, kick him while he is down and don't try to skirt the issue to avoid flak. There is no such thing as 'accidentally' kicking someone while they are down (it's like 'accidentally' running over someone several times). Plus, usually when a person says "don't mean to..." before they say or do something, it means that they are aware of what they are doing, thus making the action on-purpose.

*semantics rant off*

Until I decided out of the blue to check on his status online about 2 or 3 months ago, I seriously thought he was already dead.

I don't think someone called him N*gger.

P.S. it's not an A.

OK so I was being too PC.

My point was that he was called a nazi by all sides and the Arabs would not be the obly ones to rejoice.
