Well, as the topic says, how much would it cost to live in your country? Let's say a nice house with a car and on. Basically to live comfortably.
In Utah:
To have a nice house ($200,000) and a nice car ($30,000) would mean you would need to have a family income of at least 50K+ a year (with no debt).

$200,000 for a nice house?
Hmm, the VHA pay must be high in that area. I doubt it's higher than being stationed at the Pentagon though

The problem is that people here always tend to take bank-loans when buying houses...(and cars usually). So it's kinda hard to compare...
But when my parents lived in our nations capital they had a house that was around $200 000, and they had 2 cars and 2 motorcycles, and didn't have higger combined salary per year then some $45K.
They sold the house and bought a big farm up north some years back now, but that's another topic. ;)

Standard of living in Houston is much cheaper. You can get a 5 bedroom, 2 1/2 baths, 3,000 sq. ft home for around $200,000. When my wife and I bought our house, interest rates were at a low, we paid $425,000 for a 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath, 3,000 sq ft. home with a combined income of around $130,000. Little more expensive for the convenience. Both my wife and I live about 5 minutes from our jobs.

Seems like $400,000 house in California is becoming a norm.

Yeah, but in California, standard of living is much higher. For someone making around $40,000 here in Texas, you should be getting $60,000. Then again, you've got guys making $80,000 a year living in an apt. with a roomate in L.A.

Out on Long Island, we lived in a $375,000 house (2200 sq.ft., 4 bed, 1 3/4 bath, garage) with high taxes on a household income of about $200,000. Here in Colorado, we live in a $330,000 house (3000 sq.ft., 5 bed, 3 1/4 bath, 2-car garage) with much lower taxes on a roughly equal income. In both places we have owned a new sedan and SUV.

No state income tax here in Texas. Loving our SUVs.

I think the question is a little too broad. It depends on how well you want to live, where you want to live, whether you have one car or two or none, how many people are in your family, and so on and so forth.

Been already commented here (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=278292&highlight=#278292)
Not a very scientific study if you're not actually measuring fat is it now? Anyways, Detroit (*cough Fintin) has beaten us out this year (http://www.detnews.com/2004/health/0401/03/health-25199.htm).
exerpted from the article:
“Men’s Fitness” uses 14 categories to determine the fattest cities, including the number of health clubs and sporting goods stores and the number of fast food and ice cream and doughnut shops per 100,000 residents, air quality, climate, television viewing trends and availability of health care."

A Arm and a leg :-)
here in Vienna Austria, if you go about ten minutes either way of teh citys outskirts you are looking at about 500K euros for a nice house , and lets say about 45K euros for a nice car. Thats about a BMW 3 series with lots of comfortable extras.Furnischings for the house would be approximately 20K euros.
So all in all about 600K euros. And that against my yearly income of about 40K euros approx :-)

To live in Finland? Geez...
There's an old saying which gives you some idea:
It's like winning the lottery to be born in Finland. And you need another one to live here too... :(

Around £200,000 for a reasonable house
£10,000-£18,000 for a nice new car
Depends where in the UK you live.
A privet nice house in good place near Tel aviv will cost about $250,000 and a nice car will Cost about $30,000.

ArmedPacifist, can you tell me where in TO I can grab a nice 4 bedroom for a quarter mil? At that price I'd grab it in a minute.
Maybe out in Scarberia or elsewhere in the burbs or 905 belt, but not downtown man. A small (say 1000+ sq feet) townhous or "toft" is going to run you $300,000 t0 $350,000.
Problem here is the condo boom and low interest rates have driven prices through the roof. Give it a year or so and the bubble will burst and then prices may stablize and even drop. That may come sooner with our socialist mayor and tax and spend Provincial Government though.
Nice to know i'm above the average in income though. :)

It all depends on where one lives, and what standard of living one desires.
The cost of living in Iowa is far less than in other states. One can buy a very nice house here for under $100,000.

I had a pub lunch today. It cost £3.35(about $6) for a bottle of Becks and a Tuna and cucumber baguette. This was at a Uni bar so it's meant to be cheaper than normal pubs.

Screw it, after looking a t the costs posted here I'm heading back to the Philippines. I found a small beach hotel where the rooms rented for $9.00 Cdn a night (with indoor plumbing and hot water) and the cold San Miguel beers ran for about 33 cents Cdn a bottle at the bar. The spectacular sunset was free.

I am a real estate appraiser and where I live it is $100,000 just for the .25 acre lot not waterfront/view , $300,000 to $700,000 for a waterfront lot, Ive appraised Oceanfront 2,500 square foot condominiums for $1,700,000 and lets see at a rate of 1.378% the property taxes alone on that condo would be $23,426 (a year a little out of my league right now)
