Illegal aliens, meth labs and high property tax is not an issue. Yard sales ran by old ladies are.!!! This is a rural county not an urban area with traffic issues. This is just an attempt to bring us closer to having a tax number to sell your old golf clubs.

Time limits may be placed on Catoosa yard sales
Flea markets also may be banned 09/04/07

Yard sales that seem to go on forever may soon be a thing of the past in Catoosa County.
Catoosa County Board of Commissioners is considering a measure that will limit yard sales to once every three months for no more than 72 hours each sale.
Commissioners are still haggling over an amendment to the zoning ordinance.
Commissioner Bobby Winters said he is concerned that the limitation might excessively affect the poor in the community who look to yard sales as a way to make extra money.
“I’d like to understand more about the amendment,” he said after voting against a motion to approve at a Sept. 4 meeting. “I am talking about the regular homeowners. I am wanting to know what we are fixing to do to them.”
Commissioner Ken Marks, who also voted against, said the requirement is a little stiff.
“I’d like to see them be able to have yard sales at least once a month,” he said.
After Marks and Winters voted against, commissioners unanimously agreed to delay the yard sale issue for more consideration.
Chairman Bill Clark said he favored the initial proposed time limit.
“What we are trying to do is prevent ones that are continuous,” noted Commissioner Dewayne Hill.
Another part of the amendment completely outlaws flea markets of any type within Catoosa County.

The Catoosa County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to hold a meeting Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Governmental Building at 800 Lafayette Street in Ringgold. For more information, call (706) 965-2500. According to Donald Brown of Catoosa County Planning and Zoning, offenders who exceed the proposed minimum number of hours or have a yard sale more than once a quarter will initially receive a warning citation. If the individual repeats the offense, the county will cite the person to Magistrate Court.
According to Judge Anthony Peters of the Catoosa County Magistrate Court, unless commissioners establish some special penalties, violators could face up to 12 months in jail or up to a $1,000 fine. These are the sentencing standards prescribed for most zoning ordinance cases, he said.
“The likelihood (of that type of sentence) is very slim,” he said. “I am a strong believer in alternative sentencing.”
Peters said community service could be an alternative.http://news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v2.cfm?show=localnews&pnpID=724&NewsID=834856&CategoryID=3418&on=1

Hey listen - there's a difference between a "yard sale" and somebody who runs a junk shop out of their driveway. Yard sales happen what - once a year? When I lived in Wichita, our neighbor across the street essentially ran an every-day garage sale in his driveway - advertised in the paper - and there were hundreds of cars roaming up and down the street looking for somewhere to park. What an incredible asshole. After talking to him about it, I called the part of city government that handled zoning to find out if we could shut him down - thankfully we moved away before I had to firebomb his house and rape the flaming people running out the front door.

Hahaha yeah, I know a few of them around here. My wifes aunt and uncle run a nearly continuous one out of their garage.

What the hell you are givin my county board ideas? p-)This is a small county and I have yet to notice any problems and month long swap shops. The zoning board here goes the extreme and the zoning planner will be out in his white ranger all giddy with his new forms on his clipboard. It would be different if there was people causing problems like your neighbor. Nobody is here but the government.

One of the main issues here is the ignorance it took to not specify a sentence and way too long a time between yard sales. Once a month would be fine but three months. This is a bunch of rich fat cats who live in the fancy hood like me but have no country in em. Damn tender foots complain about my boat in the yard all the time. They also call the cops when I used to have a race car and I would crank er up. Maybe I am a redneck neighbor in the rich mans hood. What about the flea market, by God that is un-American.

Welcome to suburbia!!!

Is your neighborhood now a part of Atlanta or Chatanooga?

"Junk" in the yard may hurt property values for neighbors which in turns may hurt property taxes. But its really a policy decision by the County Supervisors.

Here are some alternatives for yard sellers:

1) eBay
2) Annual neighborhood yard sale / block party (This is a tradition in my neighborhood, I tend to get more foot traffic. Mike Myer's brother is one of my neighbors and I sold Mike one of my old Rush Albums)
3) Farmers Market / Swap Meet at the town square (More foot traffic= better sales)

Oh lord he has a clipboard. That's all it really takes to turn a regular joe into a Barney Fife. He's gonna nip it in the bud.

My neighbors used to browse local dumpsters for things to sell. My wife found them selling a dirty, ripped, nearly headless Bart Simpson doll. Sanford & Son won't work so well on eBay.

I live higher in elevation than the peasants

Junk? I understand that. Farm animals in the berbs is bad also. Go down the road at the bottom of the ridge and the chickens chase your car. They really do.

Here are some alternatives for yard sellers:

1) eBay (poor folk have no internet much less a computer)p-)
2) Annual neighborhood yard sale / block party (This is a tradition in my neighborhood, I tend to get more foot traffic. Mike Myer's brother is one of my neighbors and I sold Mike one of my old Rush Albums)
We have those at the Cricket Pavillion
3) Farmers Market / Swap Meet at the town square (More foot traffic= better sales)
Booths at the Farmers market are booked all the time and according to the law flea markets are now illegal. No permit for those.

Hell I never even stop at yard sales. I just want to gripe about something today besides DC happenings.
