Iraq Soccer Team Qualifies for Olympics

AMMAN, Jordan - Iraq's soccer team qualified for the Athens Olympics on Wednesday, less than three months after the country was reinstated by the International Olympic Committee (news - web sites).
Iraq beat Saudi Arabia 3-1, and then clinched the third and final Asian qualifying spot when Kuwait held Oman to a scoreless draw.
Celebratory gunfire was heard in central Baghdad after the match, and tracers zoomed across the sky.
"It's a crazy joy for us," Iraq defender Ahmed Alwan said. "Despite all of the difficulties we faced, we still managed to qualify for Athens and I believe that we deserve our place in the Olympics."
Both Iraq and Oman finished Group C play with nine points, but Iraq won based on goal difference.
Only one team qualifies from the group.

Nobody really says your not doing good over there, other than the resident douchebags.
What most people think is that there is more good that could be done. Which is not likely right now with the attacks.

true...i was just thinking about it more....these guys are proud of what their country is becomeing....or they wouldnt be going....i know i didnt just say that well at all....but think about it for a bit and it should make sence

Actually, the US soccer team isn't as bad as it once was. Give the team another generation and we'll be a world powerhouse just given the rate at which soccer is rising in popularity in the US.

hell yeah, IN EA sports Rugby I won the world cup with the US....on the easy level. (doh)
I had to play witht the All Blacks to win the hard level. woot

South Korea is a really good team, they were 4th in the world cup last year I believe. Saudi Arabia on the other hand isn't so hard

Actually...the SK has always been known to suck big time. However, in the last world cup they suddenly kicked ass.....after they got a Dutch coach. :D
