first off, as an easy way of keeping this thread "diplomatic"- ill ask that any flame like comments regarding israel/palestine in real life be taken elsewhere
i watch the west wing regularly, have many collegues that do as well and its a great entertainment. (not education- entertainment)
on the note of entertainment, i thought tonight's (it was tonight in canada) episode was really well done
the episode was called gaza and dealt with the killing of two US congressmen and the former CJCS by palestinian militants
did anyone else catch it?
any thoughts on the west wing in general?
ever pick up on any technical inaccuracies?
i look forward to your thoughts
I haven't seen the one you're talking about (Here in the UK we're up to the back end of the fourth series), but in general I love this show.
Irregardless of its politics (Or those of the actors) it's consistently the best written and best acted programme on TV.

Agreed, most excellent dialogue. The one where the Prez hammers some Ahole Dr. Laura bitch about literally translating the Bible is the heat.

Yeah, that was great... "Can I stone the Washington Redskins to death for touching the skin of a pig?"

Great show. Excellent writing and characters. I did not get to watch the episode, but my wife filled me in. My guess: plot twist-it was the Palestinians, but the Qumaris again. The Qumaris have it in for Fitzwallace already for the airstrip operation that took our their leader.
The last episode I saw was a taped version of the Supreme Court episode, with Glenn Close and William Fitchner. I thought it was awesome, especially the last 15 minutes or so, once those two nominees were actually on camera. I hope they're on the show again. :D

that one was easily my favorite episode tane
writing is really what hooks me on a show
quick question for those of you that watch, has there ever been a SecDef?
its always seemed like security threats are handled by the JCS and national security advisor (and now deputy NSA)

I think he's a white guy with dark hair, maybe 45-55 years of age? The NSA is about the same age, an African-American woman, and her deputy is apparently a relatively young woman from what my wife said? The CJCS is a Marine now too, right?

The West Wing is that show where Liberals are portrayed as caring and loving individuals and the Conservatives as crazy religious gun nuts?
No that's reality... a show you can see 24/7. ;)

I don't think they've been that harsh to the Republicans on there. John Goodman was a great character. Fitzwallace was Republican, if I'm not mistaken. And William Fitchner, the super-conservative USSC nominee was a very likeable character, once Glenn Close explained what his views actually were. And I don't know about watching or not watching shows or movies because of an actor's or actress's politics. I prefer that they keep politics out usually. p-)

Agreed... I like quite a few actors that don't have the same political views as me. For me, enjoying their talent in a movie or TV show has little to do with their politics.
Who gives a damn about a ****star's political affiliation?!

Good show, but the fast-paced-american-can't-pause-for-a-breath-or-someone-will-steal-my-job-which-I-worked-(and-talked)-hard-for-and-plus-I've-just-nailed-twenty-five-double-esspresso's-and-a-packet-of-caffeine-tablets way of talking gets to me after a while.
Heard an amusing rumour that a suprising number of americans actually thought Martin Sheen was the president... :|

I used to watch it, though I've missed most of this season. It had a tinge of liberalism(what do expect w/ Martin Sheen), but I don't think it was an outright slammer of conservatives. It would get a little preachy at times, but it's just TV, you don't like it change the channel.

I catch it once in a while. I agree it's well acted (I wish the actors would just stick to acting :D ) and for heaven's sake turn on the damn lights! All those 'dimly lit' scenes are driving me nuts.
I'll become a regular viewer when they get some green chicks and Klingons in the cast.
