View Full Version : If you were a Teacher...
What subject would you want to teach? That includes being a Sports coach or even Special Ed for some of you...
I would probably want to be a Wrestling Teacher or a History teacher...

I thought about being a history teacher after I got out of the Marine Corps. It would be nice to teach military history. I don't know if I can be a full time teacher with just a minor in history though.

Not true.
I have some, but barely enough to make it worth mentioning. I was a Teacher's Assistant my senior year of high school. (It was a credit course offered - a step up from a regular half-credit course.) Basically, I was teaching my classmates and underclassmen. THAT was fun. :|
But I miss it and I really wouldn't mind doing it again.

Cool. I just got through a semester of Arrest, Search, and Seizure, Intro to Law, and Juvenile Justice Systems.
Next semester is going to rock. I'm taking Criminalistics, among other things. woot I've heard really good things about the course from other CJs who've taken it already. One of them said she wished she'd failed it so she could take it again. rofl

I don't know if I should jump into to the Warden Service or if I should get some street experience first. I'm probably going to see what happens with my internship senior year.
Yeah, JJS sucked. We spent almost half the semester just taking notes on the history of it. What a waste of time.

True. There's not much good feeling for the Portland department around campus. The chief is referred to as "The Quiet Man"... he's all but famous for his press releases.
Thanks, I'll probably end up kicking the street cop idea - hell, my dad's been doing that for thirty-two years and he's been all over the rank chart only to end up as a patrol sergeant at the age of fifty. Not really the way I'm looking to do it, personally.

I teach CQC and some agency specific stuff now, but in an academic (non LEO) area I'd like to teach history.
Maine Finn: If you can get to work the street do so. Being a street monster is some of the most fun you can possibly have. Just learn not to wear your hear on your sleeve and that a degree in CJ does not make a good cop automatically.
Stay safe.

Welcome to the world of police politics. Those who imprint their lips upon the asses of others tend to wear stripes. We've got guys in my department who have multiple masters degrees, military service, great reputations on the street & within the department, have passed promotion boards numerous times and can't make it past corporal because they don't fill the right block on somebody's quota checklist or they're not some high and mighty's right hand man. ****ty deal. Welcome to the zoo.

No kidding.... we moved to Brewer in the early nineties because Dad got the chief's position.... a few years later (three or four, I think), he resigned because he couldn't fight the charges that were being made by the captain and other personnel. Essentially, he was only there because of a brief shift in the balance of power in City Hall. The current chief is the former captain, and he's been there ever since.
When I talk about him - which is rarely - I always refer to him by his former rank.
