Good post. Had it not been for smallpox and tens of thousands of Tlaxcalans and other allies, the Spanish would have taken maybe decades to conquer the Aztecs. That is not to say that the Spanish were not good warriors, at the time they were most likely the best in Europe.

Good post. Had it not been for smallpox and tens of thousands of Tlaxcalans and other allies, the Spanish would have taken maybe decades to conquer the Aztecs. That is not to say that the Spanish were not good warriors, at the time they were most likely the best in Europe.
I remember in a previous thread someone mentioned that the easiest battle ever won was the one over the Aztecs, believing that only a few spaniers actually conquered the Aztec empire (without the help of thousands of other native tribes).
About the smallpox, I remember reading that the war against the Aztecs is considered the first war in which bioweapons were used even though they didn't know what they were doing.

Exactly, actually more than the 70% of our Aztec army was destroyed by smallpox, it is not fair.
