OK, so I'm having some problems with the C79A1 elcan scope, specifically the elevation dial. Last time I sighted my own scope was on BIQ, which was this summer, but we had a class not to long ago on it and it through me way off. So after rough zeroing the scope, you fire off 5 rounds, someone puts up the marker thing to see where you hit. After this you adjust the scope. So you flip 'Silver Gate' up and adjust to the left or right.
This part put me off a bit. The instructor said the scope's BACK END only moved up and down to adjust for elevation. I thought the whole scope moved up and down, so I turn it to the left and MPI would move down or to the right it moved up? If the back end only moves, that means it would move down then moving the MPI up? I was going to ask my sec 2iC but we had weapons turn in and I forgot. Any help is appreacited it confused me.

Right right, up right.
I learned this,
to move your "hits" right, turn the wheel right.
to move your "hits" up, turn the other wheel right.
And he's right only the back end moves. You point the optic downwards, so you need to aim higher to have the sight align to the target.
And then you hit.
remember, 1 click is 2.5 cm at 100 meters.

Also, you need to check the screws that attach the elcan to the C7A1. I almost lost mine once, and my buddy lost his twice! if you run or crawl, check it every step! Or just tighten the every time you think of it.

I have a friend in the 7th Toronto Arty Regiment, he says the Elcan is a piece of $h!7. I know this is off topic, but what are the restrictions on what other sights you can use?
Thanks alot.

The optics are good. Mount is a problem.

EoTech's are being issued, BUIS is pretty popular and some are buying Aimpoint's for overseas.

From when I've used it wasn't bad, the screw came loose on BMQ once. It can zero out a bit and in combat I can only imagine it getting bumped around alot. Its not a bad scope, but there a better options out there. Like alot of kit issued to us, you adopt and overcome.
Like Lerch said, they let them use there own scopes and issue Eotechs oversea. Which depends, I don't think they let 2 RCR(?) bring there own vests.

it's not a bad sight, just a little old, and yes the mount sucks.I was so glad when we got ACOG's and aimpoint's.

I think it's a good sight, it gets the job done.

I don't think it gets the job done at all. Maybe in a strickly defensive scenario, but we all binned them as soon as we got into country

Check out www.sealsactiongear.com in the weapons accessories section. You can get a simple rail for your handguards and a grip. I use a grip similar to the non-folding type on this website.
www.wolverinesupplies.com is also a good canadian dealer for such things.
If all else fails, check out www.canadiangunnutz.com, its a forum for the canadian firearm community.
Whatever you do, don't order from the states. You will get nailed with duties at the border and end up paying 2x the amount.

You get them issued now, prior to deployment. I forget the brand name though.
