We've talked about this already... :(
I might see it because I love the Iliad, but I heard they messed with some important features of the text.

If the following scenes are not in the movie, I'm demanding my money back.
Spartan: "You don't think we should be here?"
Eric Bana: "You know what I think? It don't matter what I think. When that first javelin goes by your head, then Helen, Mediterranean trade, all that bull**** goes straight out the window. All that matters is the hoplite next to you."
Orlando Bloom: "What's the fighting like here on the Anatolian Peninsula?"
Clerk: "First off, no one calls it the Anatolian Peninsula here. Call it Anatolia, or Troy. And I wouldn't know about the fighting, so don't ask."
Orlando Bloom: "Why not?"
Clerk: "Didn't I say don't ask? Now listen kid, you look about twelve, so let me explain. I have a rare and mysterious skill that precludes me from going into combat."
Orlando Bloom: "Carving letters in stone?"
Clerk: "Can YOU carve letters in stone?"

Lol that was classic. Were the Spartans even there at Troy? Obviously Helen was from Sparta, but that was before Lycurgus turned them into the badassed we all know and love them for, so they were probably just another bunch og hoplites in the crowd.

I have no idea. Until a month ago I thought "the Trojan War" was a failed hostile takeover by Durex Corp. You're clearly taking this far more seriously than I am :)

I just hope they don't pee all over the Iliad.
Otherwise I will have to sacrifice all copies of this movie to the gods.
How do they deal with the gos anyway. Aegis bearing and all that jazz.

Yes Gladiator was great aswell. As far as my calling it a masterpiece, I guess my calling it that was more directed at the sheer scope of the battles, the sets and special effects. Either way it was a great movie, and I look foward to the DVD release.
Eric Bana is shaping up to be one of my favorite leading macho men. I was watching Oprah the other day (My Tivo auto-recorded it cuz it had Bana in the info) and they had Pitt and Bana on there. Unfortunately they did a disservice to him as they focused most of the show on Brad "Let's talk more about how you worked out for that rock hard ass" Pitt. Every other thing he said, the 300 women in the audience went nuts. I demand Bana retribution!

the movie was good, not mind blowing but good. All in all, gotta respect Hector, knowing you are about to face an invincible guy and still went to fight. By the way, if I had been Hector, my first act would have been to toss overboard my wimpy dumbass brother (paris).

Just saw it earlier and may I say I was so captivated with Helen's eyes...those deep ocean blue...Anyway I would have to say it ranks pretty high in those "epic" movie list considering it was pretty long yet it wasn't boring at the same time. And yes Hector should have thrown Paris overboard, that weakass no honour mofo.

Cant wait for Rome: Total War so I can play out huge battles like that.
Might go see it again soon. Yes Eric Bana is definately doing well for himself and I'm glad he's gotten out there into some big movies, he's a good actor and was extremely good in Troy.
It's amazing the amount of crap that "critics" are throwing at this movie (here in Australia at least). Wish they could just get over themselves and get off their high horses and enjoy a movie for once instead of picking them to death over every little discrepancy that they saw. Except...they'd be out of a job then....ohwell... :backhand:

Saw it the other day, and it was woefully inconsistent with Homer's text.
People die that shouldn't, there were plot twists that never occurred, they shift names and events in the timeline willy-nilly, Achilles is supposed to be gay, not a ladies' man (Patroclus is his lover, not his cousin), and they completely left out the bickering and interference of the Gods, among MANY other things. I suppose they felt it would be cheesy to concoct some manifestation of deities.
The biggest shift is the tone of the movie that suggests you should be rooting for the Trojans, when it's really the other way around.
If you know nothing about the book, you'll be entertained at least by the action scenes. Be prepared for endless ridiculous close-up face-shots (I mean close enough to count nosehairs, and an annoying score.
