Lately alot of stuff has been getting "locked" and threads deleted and posts edited, its taken the site to new lows.

Unforunteatly the actions of a few always seem to ruin the fun for the masses (I've said in posts before unfortuneatly its in human nature to focus on the negative then the positive), but who really qualifies to be a "flame warrior" ? How can you seperate these from other posters? Well we first have to go threw and see the general "make up" of these type of people.

From my experience on various forums the average "sh!t starter" (if you will) always seems to base there knowledge on stereotypes (ex..I'm Canadian so I must live in an Igloo, even though its 23'C outside and sunny..) They are often young (early-late teens) have no job(s) and have access to the internet (and in some case's no social life / social skills). They add little to no actual information to the site, they only serve to "cause sh!t". They do this for various reasons, and it usually varies depending on the type of person they are.

They enjoy being "anonymous", and often hide behind there keyboard and there nickname, fully realising that they can "be who they want to be" and sometimes in extreme case's they actually lie and pretend to be something / someone they are not (fully realising that if it was a "face to face" discussion there opinions / words would be choosen more carefully). They believe they are always right, even when proved wrong with legitimate facts (which usually causes quite the up-roar which they intend to cause). They often throw threads off topic, I cant tell you how many threads I've read that have been throw far off topic because of one well placed "comment". They usually have lil to no respect for authority (the mods / there peers / there elders and BTDT's), if you dont believe in everything as they do well then "your wrong". They will never engange in a meaningfull debate, and when offered 9 times out of 10 the debate wouldn't be accepted.

If anyone see's anything else to add feel free to add it to the list. This has been based on my experience at this forum and others. I will not name names, as they (and many others reading this) know exactly who they are.

So how do we stop people from becoming flame warriors and totally ruining our good threads / discussions ? That I havent figured out, the mods here are doing a great job and I have alot of respect for what they do. The time and effort it takes to "deal" with them and PM's and other things site wise is alot, and I thank them for using there free time to keep our forum clean.

What I ask everyone is to think before they type, come to this site with an open mind. Leave your stereotypes at the door, and deal with people on a "case by case" basis, keep a cool head and everyone will be able to enjoy sites like this one for years to come.

Peace everyone

One can only try mate,I've been asking people the same in the GD topic to quit flaming, they will not listen to or respect mods,so you might just be in for a rough ride matey ;)
But I admire you standing up to these cretins,it's your site guys, lets put the flames out and start to enjoy ourselves again

I don't mind a few flames now and then if they are well crafted and humorous. But that rarely happens here. "Flame Warriors" sounds a bit grandiose. I'm thinking more along the lines of "****mopper at **** store peep show"

Word Argyll...but theres always hope. I'm willing to help were I can, I dont have as much time as I used to but its the effort that matters the most. Its hard to drown the flames sometimes, but we have to remeber why we came here (in bold ;) .

Good stuff Bastardchild. Being the Internet, it's next to impossible to keep a forum both open and focused-- "on topic" if you will. Ignoring the ****moppers doesn't seem to work, proving them wrong doesn't stop them, and calling them names seems only to encourage them ;)

What seems to work is what the mods have been doing; several warnings, then the locking or deltion of threads and, finally, banning with extreme prejudice. I would like to see it done quicker, though, or nip in the bud. When some NOOB starts talking sh** by posting "inflammable" material, insults others, claims to be something they're not, or posts political spam thirty times a day, let them know that isn't permissible and if they want to stay on the forum, they should take heed.

Thanks XASA...means alot coming from a dude like you. I try to keep the forum clean n what not by just adding a touch of reality and try to talk some sense into em.

Thanks for the positive comments.

Ignore the "UT2004" bit, and that explains a lot about folks on internet forums.

Stolen from Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com), the funniest comic on the internet.
