I was just curious to when and what the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Regiment uses as their tactical recognition flash (TRF) and their headress. In some pictures you see them with a shamrock as their TRF while others you see a square divided into 2 triangles, one black and one green. As seen here,

And as for the headress, sometimes you can see them with a beret. While other times you can see them wearing a caubeen with a green hackle, which as far as i know it represents their Irish heritage and the hackle is a symbol of the Irish Fusiliers.

The TRF is the shamrock. The square divided into 2 triangles is a DZ flash - worn when they were part of 16AA Bde - even though they were not para roled.

The caubeen is the 'proper' headdress, but a beret is sometimes worn in the field - not sure why really - I guess it's smaller and less conspicuous then the caubeen.
