Wow, someone answer the poor kid's question. I've never heard of this sort of thing, but I'd like to know if it's true. I doubt that the Marines would try to create men with different values than others though. I'm pretty sure every unit goes through the same exercise and activity regimen.

At least you will have a chance to stare at hot women Marines in Paris Island. It' much better than all-male bootcamp in SD.

Better weather in San Diego though...plus, can you even masterbate in basic?

PI has better weather than southern California? Sure, if you think humidity is fun.

DEP4, when you get shipped out to Parris you'll probably be wishing you got sent to San Diego. Then again, when I get sent to San Diego, I'll probably be thinking "I wish I'd gone to Parris Island." ;)

what i do know is that i won't be staring at females like jack said. i will be staring straight ahead, getting verbally abused by an angry man with a hoarse voice that wants me to screw up every chance i get asking" what have i got myself into?!?!"

They will give you down-time every night if you are not in the field, and more time on Sunday for church.

Yeah, except you'll get plenty of a tan at Parris Island too. Just because you're in San Diego doesn't mean that you're going to be able to spend half your time on the beaches.

i'm sure i will get plenty of sun at P.I., plus i am already on the tan side because of my italian background.

yeah, i am not planning on going to church anyway, and free time in the squad bay will not include females.

SD doesn't have the humidity though.

I'll try and shed some light here.
First off, good luck in 3rd Battalion. When I went through Boot in '92 I was in India Company, 3rd Bn.
The three male Bn's are known for:
1) knowledge
2) drill
3) PT
3rd Bn is the PT Bn. So enjoy!
I only remember that 1st and 2nd were known for knowledge and drill, I just don't remember which was which.
Also, you won't have anytime to jack off, besides they put salt peter in the chow. You won't get a chubby until the end of boot.
You will get a farmers tan on PI. It won't matter, you'll still be ugly and no chick will touch you (unless you have one already!).
You'll probably eat in the 4th Bn chow hall at least once. Don't worry, the chicks are as ugly as you are.
If you don't go to church on Sunday's, you'll be one of the fools back at the barracks with the junior DI and you will field day the barracks with about 30 less people than normal. Choose your poison.
I went to church because the chicks from 4th Bn were there and you could talk to them (the DI's won't smoke you in church!).
The down time at night consists of 30 minutes prior to lights out. It's called senior drill instructors square away time. You shine brass, polish boots, clean your deuce gear and write/read mail. It's more often than not less than 30 minutes.
Hope this helps,
Good luck and pay attention to details (you'll hear that some many times you won't believe it),
It's best to be the invisible recruit, you'll understand what that means later,

Mooch already explained everything, but just to add a few things.
1st Bn is known for drill, our color was red.
2nd Bn is known for knowledge their color is green.
3rd Bn, like Mooch said is known for PT, their color is dark blue, oh yeah and they are psychos. ;) At least thats how it all was in 92.
Second off, you will go to recruit chapel on Sunday there nasty one, and you will enjoy it! I am not particularly religious, but I looked forward to church every sunday. The only time to escape from the DIs, and just about the only time you will see nasty female recruits. Trust me you dont want to be stuck in the squad bay with DIs while everyone else is at church!
The Recruit Chapel is also well worth seeing, its a trip. Check out the stain glass windows, not your typical Jesus and saints stuff. My favorite, was the one with a Marine standing on a pile of bodies with a flame thrower in hand!
Take Mooche's advice be invisible. I managed to go through all 13 weeks without being quarterdecked individually! Untill the day before graduation when my Senior DI punished me mercilessly and told the whole platoon to watch( ****er fellow recruits thought it would be funny to tell him I had never been quarterdecked!) As he said "No nasty recruit goes through my Platoon without being quarterdecked, push now, move."
