All the pics im seeing now have Marines using the M16A3/4 whatever it is with the A2 receiver it looks like and the RIS on it. Now it was probably too expenisve for them to integrate to the M4, but whats the story with these. At first i thought they were only giving them to designated marksman who were putting ACOGs on them, but has the intre Corp switched to the new one, or what, if anyone can help me out.
Thanks

The Marines have opted for the M16A4 rather than the M4A1, favoring the longer barrel and hence, longer range and higher power. Originally they were only issuing them to designated marksman but as they receive more and more units they're replacing all A2's with A4's.

A4s are awesome guns, It was a good idea to adopt them over the m4. :D

Does the A4 have a full auto mode or the 3 shot mode?

3 shot burst. - the M-16A3 Is full Auto though ;)

Personally i think they should have copied the canadians and put a telescoping stock on a long barrel, though i suppose that would have cost more ?

They Marines and the Army had been toying around with that idea for a little while now. You'll notice that the SPR program used a host lower with a retracting stock, as well as, ones with a normal fixed A2 length stock. There's appears to be some debate now over whether a retracting stock is better in light of the new modular accessory storage systems for AR-15/M16 pattern buttstocks now being made by people like VLTOR.

Also, now that the USMC is issuing A4s to everyone they've initiated their SAM-R program, to develop or look for a suitable replacement for the squad marksman's rifle.

I carry M4's whenever I can. I can't stand the M16A4. I mean, It's fine in environments where you won't hit your barrel on doorways and wait-a-minute vines, but what the heck?

Eh, it's all up to personal preferance. The M16A4 is really quite accurate, even though I've only shot out to 300m with it.
