I saw this awesome video on CNN awhile ago but I just found it on the internet. It is of the 75th Ranger Regiment in Southern Iraq.

uhm, I don't think combat journalists are jumping out to get their hair ruffled and their suit dirty to show you a guy shooting off 4 rounds with his AK47 just before they die.

I'm sure this was released during an SOF/Rangers Operation around Al Qiam,it would be pretty stupid wasting ammo in a combat zone for a publicity shot!!

I'm sure the embeds would have caught on if it was a publicity shot.

Ah now it's coming back to me,this was an official DOD video, and because it was in the Western Iraq TAO,consisting of US SOF,there were no embeds on this op!
I'm also pretty certain that there were no embeds within the SOF in the Western Desert, because of the nature of the Ops.

Nice video, but I can see why some might consider it to be "posed". (I'm not saying it is posed, just making an observation)

I don't know the circumstances behind the footage, but it seemed very static and controlled. In my admittedly few experiences of combat, it could be described by one word: chaos. There was no chaos here - either the threat was limited (no return fire, very few enemy, contact coming to an end, whatever) or the soldiers involved have not learned to fear incoming rounds. I was also trained not to stay in the same place for so long under fire - even moving a few metres to the left or right makes a difference. I'm assuming that the guys doing the majority of the shooting were "supporting fire" personnel.... but I couldn't see any "assault" troops taking advantage of the firepower going downrange..... (you know, the guys who close in and take the fight TO the enemy, up close and personal)

Again, I'm not saying this was staged - just making some observations.

Note: my observations could be clouded by my military training (one of the assault guys - "stationary in combat is dead" was one of the principles)

Either way, that is a fair amount of lead to send downrange - damn glad I wasn't on the receiving end :)

During the shooting, I noticed what seemed to be solid streams of light following the axis of the weapons , is it IR sighting equipment of the kind not vissible to the naked eye?

I personally think that it was not a "publicity shot" but I will not say that it was an intense firefight because they seemed relatively unthreatened (at least only what the video showed) with no incoming rounds. Notice also the one Ranger who is standing up next to the machine gunner and I would think that if they were under fire or attacking an enemy they would all be hunkered down. Then again I dont know jack about combat so its just some thoughts...

If you don't know Rangers tend to record most of their operations and raids. I'm guessing most of you haven't seen any of the other videos from Afghanistan. The person recording that is most likely a member of the unit and not a reporter, that’s why the video came from the DOD.

So you think this is staged? For you would know because you've seen combat with the Rangers of course. The rangers didn't go to Iraq to get their picture taken, they could do that anytime at home. Every time you speak you make ripples in the water, think about that next time you want to open your mouth and stop watching so many damn movies.

From your quite belligerent response I assume that you are a Ranger with combat experience? Please do not turn this thread into an angry "why do you hate america" thing... its a cool video, some think it 's "real" others don't, other arent sure. Nothing sinister about it.

I don't care if it's staged or not, it's still freakin' cool.
