hi all

I found this chicom vest on the net. I reckon it looks pretty cool.

Does anybody know a little bit more about it? If somebody could provide more detailed pictures, that would be awesome!

Thanks

Vu

Looks like an SKS chest rig.

for the reason that SKS ammo loads are not as big as the pouches on that vest. I'd rather say it could be used for ak47 mags, but I am not sure.

Therefore some more photos would be awesome.

They ARE not AK chest rigs. Why? Because I have one.

It's an SKS rig, son. Have you seen or shot an AK or SKS?

Actually, I think it probably is for an AK, although I've never seen one like it before. I have both an AK chest rig like Zeke's, as well as an old Chicom SKS rig, and that is different. Looks like it has AK-sized pouches, plus auxiliary/grenade pouches as well. I wouldn't mind having one if the price is right.

You do know the difference between an avtomat kalashnikova (http://world.guns.ru/assault/as01-e.htm) and a samozaryadny karabin simonova (http://world.guns.ru/rifle/rfl01-e.htm), da? Because if you think you posted a photo of an SKS, you need to rethink that.

If your post was just a pisstake, disregard.

To the OP, it doesn't look like any SKS chest rig I've seen. Every one I've seen is set up to hold 10 round stripper clips. That looks like it's designed to hold 30 round box magazines.

Granted, there are SKS's that have been modded to use detachable 30-rd mags, but they use AK mags (Tapco notwithstanding) for the most part.

Edit: Actually, I don't think it's a chest pouch of any type. Looking at it, it looks like it's designed to be worn like a normal LBE. That would put two mag pouches up front, one on the left side/rear and a grenade panel on the right side/rear.

Cos son has seen war, real war and not the shooting range "war". I understand your point in displaying the chest rig. the pouches for ak mags are quite big. Original sks doesnt have any mags except the one that is always fixed on the rifle (at least thats the case with yugo sks also called papovka) I know also that you can modify sks and make it accept different sized mags.

the mags on the vest that I displayed are too big for sks. Definitely! Now the question is if they are too small for ak!? therefore I would like to have some more photos.

also something else: you shouldn't believe everything on the net, especially some online shop item description! If those guys at www.sportsmansguide.com write that its a sks vest, it doesnt mean it is one.

I agree that the pouches may not be big enough to hold 7.62 AK mags. Maybe 5.45? It's really hard telling where the thing is from from that photo.

And Sportsman's Guide isn't an authority on the nomenclature of any of the milsurp crap they sell. :p

I'm stinking with SKS since it looks like it can hold stipper clips and not mags. BTW, how you know it's CHICOM anyways?

Vu, IF you are a war veteran then I apologise. I'm just a range "war veteran".

However, thats not important. We all share the same interest and cos of that I hate you ... cos you are allowed to shoot in the country where you live and I am not....."bloody" down under laws ;-)

In one description of the vest it says that i can hold both, stripper clips and mags, BUT it doesnt say which mags.

I am still hoping for some photos :|

Cmon enthusiasts, show me your skills, post some pictures!!!!!!!!

Aaaaaaaaaaaalriiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. After nobody was posting any more info I went googleing and I was successful.

Ezekiel25:17 is gonna love this one, especially after the discussion about sks or ak. According to some other forum about guns, it is indeed a SKS vest made for a Chinese rifle type 63 which uses AK 20 rounds mags. How funny is this hey!? So I'd say it is a draw

Some more info on the vest:

it has 6 ammo pouches and 4 pouches for potato masher grenades. According to the forum posts, ammo pouches carry 40 rounds of 7.62 stripper clips and it can also accept a 20 rounds M14 mag. The 4 pouches accept perfectly 4 STEN gun mags, one each.

I might get one and experiment a bit with it, especially with the grenade pouches. I believe they can be changed to 8 frag grenades pouches or also used as carrier for yugo ak grenades (dunno how you call em in English, it's TROMBLON in yugo/serb/cro)

That's pretty bizarre, Vuc. Outstanding find though, mate.

I'll agree to a draw. p-)

From wiki:

Chinese Type 63, 68, 73, 81, 84: Only a close relative to the SKS, these rifles shared features from several east-bloc rifles (SKS, AK-47, Dragunov). AK-47 style rotary bolt and detachable magazine.

Does it still count as an SKS? :p

Meh........might be buying a Yugo SKS in a few months.

It is a belt rig for the AK, designed by the Chinese, used regularly by the VC. It holds 30rd mags in the long pockets and the stick grenades in the odd pouches on the right side rear. They can be had for less than $15 brand new at most gun shows.

@Buckeye67: Thanks mate ;-)

@Ezekiel: jealooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuus!!! Big time jealous! But enjoy the piece man. I've seen some butt stocks available in USA, so the yugo sks can be converted to some mad looking gun. Not only mad looking, also better functioning. Then it can be compare with newer versions of M14. I am not sure about USA laws, but would you be able to get the rockets which you can fire from the yugo sks? Attached is one version of it. There are also others, the standard once: explosive, anti armor, smoke and light.

@PvtPyle: Mate, prove it? We were discussing this question in entire topic. I reckon, the pouches are too small for AK 30 rounds mags.(Geees, I feel now like Ezekiel rofl)

Cheers

I found some good suppliers for chicom stuff, in USA of course. Unfortunately these guys are not shipping outside USA. That makes me very "depressed" here in down under :-(

Does anybody know any army/military/surplus shops in USA delivering also in Australia?

We have some shops here, but they are a rip off! Eg. one pouch for three 30 rounds Steyr mags in Auscam costs around 40 bucks. For a used one you pay 25 to 30 aussie bucks. Which is bloody insane.

Help guys!

I sell them at the gunshows for $15 each, and they do infact hold 30rd mags. The grenades are about 9 inches long, so use their holder to scale the mag pouches against that.

Prove it to yourself, go online and spend the $15 and buy one!

but nobody wants to ship stuff to Australia.

And to be honest, you are expensive. There are online shops offering same product for 7 bucks. I know 7 bucks difference is not much, but I dunno what else you offer.

So feel free to post or message me the link to your shop and then I'll check it out.

BTW. thank you very much for the info. One more plus point to get one.

Cheers
