They are just reenforced around the knees.
Those are not the normal issued trousers

So these would be the same as the knee pads you see most soldiers in astan with both regular and SOF but are just incorporated in the material of the trousers instead of being seperate pads?

Thanks for you reply by the way :o)

I know. :) But the camo is called Flecktarn or Tropentarn, not DPM. Or is DPM a general term for such camos?

It's just an extra piece of fabric sewed on (possibly by themselves) the knee area, the part of the trousers that wears out the fastest.

The camouflage pattern is called Wüstentarn, not DPM. It's the desert version of Flecktarn.

The reenforcements are not self-made, these are special pants called "Einsatzhose Spezialkräfte" oder more common "KSK-Hose"; apart from the reenforced knees, they also have larger pockets with slotted buttons and integrated gaitors.
The reenforcements themselves are made from cordura (which is a lot more resistent to abrasion than cotton) and have removable soft foam as padding; this makes them more flexible and comfortable than regular knee pads but at the same time, they offer less protection (think sharp rocks or glass).

The reason why the reenforcements are tan is simple - "wüstentarn" cordura was not yet available back then.

Sorry I didn't know what the actual clothing was called.

I only called it DPM for a general term....as people sometimes call it "Cam or Camo"

Looks like TacGear KSK Trousers.

The TacGear one is a cheap, low-quality commercial knockoff made somewhere in the far east, but apart from that you're right. ;)

I have a few of their items and the quality has always seemed pretty good. Nice stitching and quality cloth.

The second/latest batch of clothing made by Germann First Line (Vaude) uses a strange fabric that somehow spoils the everything - the colors are very dark and just don't match anything, the background (that is supposed to be a medium greyish green) is almost purple.
Also, the material glows almost white under IR light/NVDs, apart from what the manufacturer claims on the homepage; apparently, these results were only true for the first batch.

Apart from that, the waterproof liner is made from eVent material and very recommandable and you can get the jacket as a special offer from ranger-shop.de for 179€ - if you don't mind the colors aren't facing anyone using NVDs, but need a good libner along with it, that's the jacket for you.

A very good alternative are the smocks made by Sabre (http://www.sabre-germany.de), they all use milspec (new version) fabric and are "IR-safe".

Is it the same jacket as the one on the recon-company website? It looks it but it is cheaper..

Yes, it is the same. Everything made by German First Line/Vaude is on a clearing sale there, that's why it is cheaper.

I've got a picture for you, compare the colors to the chest rig and boonie hat:

And I'm not sure if the availability information is correct - I could call the store for you tomorrow and find out. ;)

Thanks for the picture.

I did send them an email, to see if they have a medium and if they ship to the US, but if you want to call for me it would be greatly appreciated. :-)

Following the links in this thread I found this jacket. http://www.tacgear.de/produkte/6101_cce_br.jpg
What camo is this? I was under the impression that germany used flecktarn (and desert) only. Is this official german camo or just something the company made up and called KSK to increase sales?

Edit: Disregard my question. I followed the link on the webpage and found the jacket was made in several differnt camos including DPM and M90.

BTW it is French Central European, which is close to the old US Woodland.
