I have updated my article on the SA80, with particular emphasis on the last section on the future choice of rifle for the British Army: http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/SA80.htm
Is this another the SA80 sucks balls thread? the A2 sorted most of the problems....

Q What grenade launching ability does the A2 have?
A It fires a rifle grenade. This is slipped over the barrel of the IW and fired using an ordinary round of ammunition. The round strikes a bullet trap on the grenade and this provides the energy to launch the grenade. The MOD is content with the capability of the current rifle grenade.
Is this still accurate? Last I recall the rifle grenades were ditched with the introduction of the UGL

I know it's far from an insightful comment and bordering on the waltish, but the A2+UGL looks the nuts. :)

No it isn't.
Yes they were.

Agreed - it's just a quote from a statement made at that time.

heard a great story about the rifle grenade use.
a certain TA unit the only person to achieve a hit with the weapon ignored the clip on sight and used the SUSAT this unfortunately led to the woman concerned getting a rather nasty cut to the head that needed stitches.
her husband was informed on another range buy his "mate" your wifes been hurt on the grenade range no worries though I got all the pieces in this black plastic bag :)

It is also likely that a replacement optical sight for the SUSAT will be chosen soon.
A Trijicon ACOG variant has been selected. Ask Royal for the exact model! ;)
Can't find the 'publicity' photos - they were posted here - but, here is a short video:

Note: I've only scanned your work Tony, therefore I may have missed you already noting the above! Sorry, if this is the case.

Looks like a TA31DOC with an ARMS throw lever mount..
Not a standard Trijicon offering at this time.

If anyone is interested there was a good thread over here (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=80220) on the Trijicon and the Biblical text that is connected to the sites.

the new susat is out and been used in afgan at the moment i dont have exact specs but have been told by a friend who has used it that it has a floating aiming mark and is made from a tough plastic and rubber. also the ugl looks even better if you fit the laser light module on to the side of it..

On the topic of SUSATs, does anyone know if there is a different SUSAT fitted on L22A1's? I heard that they were smaller, and the aiming post came down from the top rrather than from the bottom. Is this true, and does this sight have a different magnification?
