I've had a plum set for a few years now. You take it to a range and the old men look at you like you had 3 eyes. Add some of the plum mags and I have ad one of them ask me if it was a gun for gay people!
I have never heard why the Russians went to that color for the short time they did but it is unique.
not to derail or anything but you guys are talking about the color right...the thing looks black to me

Yep, the furniture is Plum in color. The Plum mags are almost black though and are sometimes hard to tell apart from black mags unless the light is very good.
My C.U.R. 2 is In Plum, My SAR 2 is in O.D.green. My custom build is in black as well. All others are in Bulgarian style Black.

Is that K-VAR plumb? It looks much lighter than mine. Or maybe it's just the lighting or camera flash.

Obviously you have never been shopping with a woman. ;)
The K-Var Plum stocks come in several shades as did the Russian stocks. They vary from "plum" colored to almost black. Mine looks identical to the one pictured.

Is it just me or does that look absolutely nothing like the furniture in question? Which one is plumb, the SAR2 stock or that square?

plum furniture was the first furniture made out of glassfilled poliamid (nylon), it was manufactured that way until the appearance of balck furniture.

Maybe it is lost in translation, but why Plum at all? Why not start with black?
