Right now I'm reading a yet to be published book written by a friend of mine. I'm enjoying it.

Clancy's gone a bit stale of late :(
Currently my favorite author is José Saramago. I continually find myself amazed at the way he describes things...he's a genius. :)
I also loove Stephen King's works :D

He's cool.... no? I think I've read everything he has written. The Elvis ones are better than the ones with the chick as a main character.

Yeah. He just donated I don't know how many thousands to the City of Bangor for a new Olympic-size-or-something public pool.
Damn glad he's a native Mainer. I'd hate to see him putting his money into any other state! :D
That's awesome. Not only is he a magnificent writer but he seems like a great person. :) Have you ever met him? The last book of his I read was The Shining. That was the first book that really gave me the creeps big time. There was just something about it (when the little boy went into that room with the dead lady...my god :petting: ) I think my favorite one of his that I've read so far is The Tommyknockers.

No, I haven't had that honour. I don't live in this area anymore, I'm just visiting at the moment. There's not much chance of me meeting him unless I bumped into him in the Old Port or something.
My favourite is The Green Mile. I saw the movie and loved it. It's actually a tie between that and Shawshank Redemption. Both were excellent films. I admit I've been too lazy to read the books. :(

Shawshank Redemption is actually in the collection of Short Stories called Different Seasons. Probably the best story in the book.
Also in that collection is
The Body
(Stand By Me)
Apt Pupil
(movie had the same name)
The Breathing Method
(Not going to be made into a movie)

I'm going to have to agree on 'The Stand' as King's best. I think I read the original twice and then the un-cut one when it came out. Great stuff (it must've been good, Anthrax wrote a song about it called 'Among the Living') woot
Other favorites:
Tom Clancy
Andy McNab
Dale Brown
Anne Rice (Vampire Chronicles)
Richard Marcinko
Bill Waterson (Calvin and Hobbes :D )

My favorite author is Robert Anson Heinlein though.
Just read his "new" book. For Us The Living.
Actually his first novel, but it was just released! It was published after his 3rd wife's death for reasons they say will be explained in the upcoming biography.
Hey Ria, ever read Tim Dorsey's books? They are about the area you live in. Kind of Carl Hiassen like. Dorsey used to be an editor for the Trib.

I just picked this book yesterday: THE DA VINCI CODE, by Dan Brown. I'm not sure that I'm reading it pretty soon. I'm going for UBC summer 2004 semester. The way I'm looking it, I'll be reading Molecular Genetics Book instead of THE DA VINCI CODE.
Hey all.
Just picked up the Last Light of the Sun by Guy Gavriel Key. Also got Michael Moocock's Gloriana and Dave Duncan's Paragon Lost, so I've got a full calendar, reading-wise.

Hey Mark :) No, I never have. He sounds familiar though...I'll look him up. Thanks! :)

A friend was telling me a few days ago about a book he's reading called "Survivor" or Survival," I think it was "Survivor." The story goes backwards, in flashback, as a man is about to die in a plane crash. Apparently it's an awesome book.
Honestly, I don't get to read as much fiction as I'd like, but I read "Bel Canto" again a while back. Excellent book, though not entirely realistic sometimes.
Have a good one, and just some thoughts...

Tane... I still want you to read The Lovely Bones. It's really different, and I'd like to talk to you about it. I know you're just lying around these days, so give it a read... won't you? ;)

My friend read it, it's by Chuck Palahunuik (sp), the guy who wrote Fight Club. He's a....different writer. But he's very good.
