View Full Version : Anti-Americanism

There are so many threads on this forum that start of with a valid subject resulting in valid arguments which then become degraded into a slagging match about anti-Americanism because someone has criticised an American opinion or action ... OK, fairplay, you don't agree with the bloke but that doesn't make him anti-American in the same way that it doesn't make you anti-whatever-f*****g-country-they're-from.
Obviously i'm not directing this at everyone out there but there are certain people with whom this seems to be a recurring theme. To these people I say - look at what the person has written ... if you don't like it you disagree with him, the chances are that person doesn't have a fundamental problem with you or your government that person just thinks differently from you. If you think this person is a fool tell them and tell them why, then they can reply to you in a somewhat more sensible manner than just being labelled as anti-American because they don't agree with you.
There's probably people in every country, including America, who are anti-American, just as there's probably people in every country, including Britain, who are anti-British, but that doesn't make everyone who disagrees with your point of view anti-whatever-country-you-happen-to-be-from.
I just wanted to make this point and maybe now we can keep the anti-American arguments to this thread rather than threads about the possibilty of WMD being found or whatever else happens to be on peoples minds.

You mean quotes like this?.... (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2359&start=0)
Why is it suddenly OK to invade countries just because they are developing WMDs?
America has done more bad things to Iran than Iran ever did to the US... when was the last time Iran rigged a US election and got a nutter into power in the US?
Why wasn't India or Pakistan or Isreal invaded when they got a Nuclear capability?
I think the US needs to sort out the little situations they created in Afghanistan and Iraq before it screws up another country...
This quote itself was what made me start this thread (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2382), which interesting enough, brought some out from the woodwork. ;)
But no, the US had been scratched and it wanted to lash out at anyone. They ended up taking out the regime they put in power and replaced it with what used to be largely the Communist government side in the war.

The important point is...anyone can post articles may it be anti-something, pro-something, anyone can do it, we can all express our opinion may it be anti-something, pro-something, again, anyone can do it...BUT when we're dealing with real issue, such as alleviating problems in Africa or how to make the world a better place...It doesn't help you, me, or anyone else, to flagrantly display the anti-american or anti-europe and degenerate a perfectly productive thread into a "U.S. evil...blah...blah...blah...thing" or (even though I have no problem against it) "Damn annoying French and European...blah...blah...blah..." because we'll just end up posting posts after posts of why this and that and somewhere along the way, the important issue is lost!!!
GET THE POINT!!!
So if a thread is about this...keep it to that...don't stray from the path children...terrible thing can happen..."USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM!!!"
You all read from Anti-Americanism, but you forget to wrote that the American Goverment Anti-French and Anti-German is. We ( from the old Europa :D ) are not Anti-Americanism but we have not the self meen. I hope you understand what I say :petting:
When you all say: Every Land that has WMD is Evel, then look at Pakistan or India or Isaral ...
Andy
When you all say: Every Land that has WMD is [evil], then look at Pakistan or India or Isaral ...

"Damn you Eruo folk"
What's the deal with looking at Europeans as one people??? I am a Norwegian, I feel Norwegian. I actually feel more American than French=)
Europe is a multitude of states with their own culture and way of life. If you really think Europeans have so much in common that you can judge them as one people, you are wrong. Try traveling out of you'r little inbreeded town, and visit different European countries. Maybe you'll even begin to understand that America isn't as great as people think.

rofl ... as I said lets keep the anti-American stuff on this thread.
What's the deal with looking at Europeans as one people
This is a very valid point, nearly all of my American friends subscribed very much to the view that all Europeans are similar until they travelled to the different countries in Europe and realised that every country is very much different. I mean people talk about Americans being anti-French and anti-German but jesus ... check out the brits on the holiday if you want to see anti-French or anti-German.

yeah try telling a Scotsman he's the same as an Englishman, and see what response you get!!............we Scots want to be run by Scots within Scotland, and not by Poiticians down south who most of them think Scotland is an Island!!

So we Americans think we are all great, that our country is the best, right? So you Europeans and non-Americans don't look at the great history of your own countries, your own countries natural beauty, your own citizens triumphs and failures and say to yourself "Damn, my country of {insert your country here} is awesome, it's the best."
Oh but us Americans who don't leave our INBRED towns thinks we're the best. So if we don't leave our inbred towns how in the world do all you non-Americans know that we think we're the best. I mean have you come in contact with all 250 million Americans living in their little inbred towns. Have you talked to the Crips and Bloods in South Central, or the activists in San Franscisco. Have you spent time with fisherman in Maine or the cops in New York, of course you have that's why you know that we're all inbred and that we all have this view that we're awesome and your not. I know that the first person I ever met from Norway was in Disney World and when I started asking them questions about their homeland at no time did I ever say to them "Well you know America is the best." Did I venture far enough from my inbred home for you? I mean lets not all stereotype non-Americans as being Anti-American and American Bashers. But it's totally ok to say that all 250 Million Americans think that America is the best. In the 20 some odd years since I was born in America I have never heard someone say you know our country is better than Norway. But I have heard Americans and non-Americans alike rip this country up and down for it's faults and failings thanks to one of its greatests successes the 1st Amendment. But hey all you non-Americans that bash us know us so well cause you've spent all your lives in our country learning about us like you think we should spend in your country learning about you.
You want to talk politics then talk politics. You want to talk right and wrong talk right and wrong. But if you want me to accept blame for the actions of my gov't that occurred out of my control then I want you take equal blame for any failures your gov't did. You want to express your views and use that Freedom of Speech, do it, knock yourselves out. But don't come on here and say things like "Get out of your inbred towns" or "Your American Gov't lies to you," and expect us Americans to go "Hey you know what them darn Europeans have a point, we should leave our cousins...I mean our wives behind and go to there country just so we can see that ours SUCKS." or "Hey Earl...." "Yeah Jed"..."Did you know that our country lies to us?" "No Jed I didn't, maybe we should move to one of them PERFECT non-American countries where everybody is truthful and peaceful and happy." "Hey Earl..." "Yeah Jed" "Do you think they'll let me bring my sheep with me...."

Stumps: When did I say that ALL Americans were from inbreeded towns? And when did I say that I hold all Americans responsible for your goverment's actions?
I just tried to point out that the kind of attitude that a. enders. showed when he said "euro-folks" is a typical sign of lack of knowledge about the rest of the world (typical "inbreeded" attitude :) ).
He was not serious, but I have heard the words "those europeans are stupid/cowards/filthy" so many times, and I'm really tired of it. The word European is rather useless when it comes to describing a person.
"So if we don't leave our inbred towns how in the world do all you non-Americans know that we think we're the best"
Well, just look at a. enders' post, that's a perfect example. Even "inbreeded" towns has Internet access nowadays ;)
If you want to talk to me, talk to me as a Norwegian, NOT an European.

DPM95,
As far as I know I haven't specifically targeted any particular country and to be honest except for this post I've always referred to American Nay Sayers and non-Americans. But don't you think that the same generalization your using against Americans me included, based on your contact with one person on this site is exactly what your complaining about.
So if we share or chat again about ideas on this site, I'll treat you as a person based on what you say and you can do the same. :)

Stumps: No, I don't think I generalized anyone. If anyone feels that they are generalized by me, I want to excuse myself for not making my point clear enough.
I will talk to you as Cpl Stumps, and not a citizen in a country which probably contains more subcultures and kinds of people than any country in the world.
