Is it just me or religion behind most of the wars that have happened since the middle ages? and is there a pattern that seems to be emerging?

I think the reasons for every war are power, influence and nowadays money in a political sense.
The problem is, that the Islam is also a political movement, not like Christianity.
And very extreme and fundamental people abuse this religion for their own purposes as well.
I also think that the current interpretation of the quaran isn't matching our democratic values very well, but the quaran itself is a very impressive book.

Firstly, its not religion, but religious justification used by a bunch of cuthroats calling themselves leaders. Unfortunately the kings then often had titles like "Holy Roman Emperor" or "Defender of the Faith" etc - basically to legitimise their power ( I am appointed by G*d etc ) and increase their power base. European powers often had boundaries that extended beyond any one etnic or national group and religion was used as a means of unifying people. It was also used as a pretext to nick stuff off people or subjugate them - which generally cause wars anyway.
Secondly all religions have the "be nice to neighbour" clause which gets roundly ignored most of the time.

Now that is probably your most intelligent post to date. The Koran teaches develops an inclusive or complete epistemology verus most other religions that teach a value stucture.

It's just you. 6 million Jews were slaugtered because of their religion, prior to that 1 out of every 4 men in Europe died in a massive war that was not motivated by religion. During the Communist Revolution, untold masses were slaughtered and sent to gulags...no religion involved there either.
Korean War. No religion.
WWII. No religion.
Vietnam, No religion.
The vast majority of the people on this planet ARE religious and get on fine and peacefully.
So yes, it's just you.
:bash:
What the hell, man? I won't even get into all the wars that were fought because of religion. It would take too long. Religion is used as a motivation for all sorts of things, even an idiot knows this.
Okay. In regards to your last statement, explain to me, then, what is happening over in Iraq right now. It looks to me like religion is very much behind the resistance.
But then, what do I know? I'm only a civilian who has not served and does not know anyone who is serving.
Go read a history book, mate, because your statements are pure bull.

Religion is the excuse.
for once I agree with you 100%
theres wery wery few wars because of religion, in almost every case its been an excuse.
The real reasons have always been economic-and-power.
For one example is the christian crusades that always were seen as a religous war. The real reasons were not religious, but economical. Read the detail, before, during and after the crusades...
and yes MAINE FINN
i do read history books

The Crusades were not just about fighting Muslims (who were getting awfully close to Europe at the time... conquered 1/2 of Spain, etc), but also about the Pope attempting to exert his influence over Europe.
That was pretty much the last showdown. The Pope lost, Christianity and other semitic religions have been in decline ever since then because they lost their credibility. Now we are witnessing the end of semitic religion, brought by the Islamist lunatics, the Israeli Zionists, and Texas oil thieves. No one will take semitic religion seriously after this is all over.
Good riddance Jesus, you've killed enough people over the years.

Religion is the excuse.
Good post. Seems like people of the same religion haven't really had problems killing one another. Religion does divide people, but so do flags, languages, borders, rivers, mountains, marriages, ancient murders, money and many other factors. Have a good one, and just some thoughts...
