MADRID, Spain: Police said Monday they had arrested a 21-year-old Spaniard for an allegedly racist attack on a young Ecuadorean girl on a commuter train after the incident was captured by security cameras.
A video of the attack, placed on several Spanish news media Web sites, showed a skin-headed man arriving in a carriage and talking on a mobile phone. Within seconds, he stood up and started punching a young Ecuadorean girl sitting opposite him. Before stepping off the train, the man kicked the girl in the head.
Police said the man insulted the girl while striking her, telling her to go back to her country, El Pais newspaper reported.
The incident took place Oct. 7. Police arrested the man, identified only as Sergi Xavier M.M., on Oct. 19 in Santa Coloma de Cervello, close to the northeastern city of Barcelona.
The girl, aged 16, was still suffering psychological stress after the attack, El Pais said.

He was arrested for a few Hours, then he has to present himself every 15 days to a court and then to a judge for six months I think. The woman its afraid to go outside her house, so since the attack was ocurred she has been inside her apartment.
I would have kicked his ass if I was on that train.I am surprised no one tried to help the poor woman.

An obviously mentally unstable person walks in and unleashes his rage as well as ******ly harasses a young girl. I don't think it really mattered what she was, he was looking for an easy victim. His kick in the end never reaches the girl though. The spanish media then instantly picks up what is in fact a minor, uncommon incident as a major "hate crime", and the international media does the same thing.
What upsets me (besides the crime) is that this is deemed newsworthy on a major scale while tens of thousands of racially motivated homicides, rapes etc. against the European indigineous population (there is probably a 10000:1 ratio) never is picked up by the very same media.

Very depressing and disturbing. This idiot should be jailed. I am not bothered that the other person watching is perhaps a woman - she still could have helped by at least going for help, shouting, screaming, attracting attention.
I witnessed something like this a few years ago in a UK Railway Station and I lost my cool and went after the guy. A young kid and an old lady joined me! We got the ass**** on the ground and sat on him until the cops arrived.

No matter was that victim immigrant or not: no matter was that attacker lived (and born) there in Spain, he is still idiot.

Besides, most of the Ecuadorean population is of native american race.
The local media have interviewed some of his neighbours and they said he he has had nomerous violent incidents before. In the video of his interview you can see how easily he looses his temper. His neighbours also said he used to wear a T-shirt with a swastica on it .
So I don't have any doubt the retard is a racist.

That's been going on for many years.
I hated Madrid because every time I opened my mouth (Latin American Spanish) you're treated with indifference and contempt. If you don't speak Castillian Spanish or Catalan you're screwed.
Though the Gallegos (Galicians) were more friendly since many had lived in Argentina and Peru working in the fishing industry. Many of the ex-Republican exilies had Latin American spouces and always held Mexico with high regard for saving thier lives.
The fact of the matter is that Spain's relative economic prosperity and industrial growth is attributed to immigrant labor. It's also a numbers game. As the Spanish are having fewer kids, more immigrants are needed to fill in the void.
In time, many children of immigrants born in Spain will not only change Spain's demographics, but also may challenge regional loyalities in Catalonia, and the Basque Country. Since many of them speak Spanish as a primary language and identify themselves with Spain as a single entity.

I learned Spanish primarily from Mexicans, Guatemalans, and Salvadorans, and cannot help the Latin American flavor of my speech.
But, when I was in Sevilla, I have to say I was treated very well, and nobody corrected my "Latin American" Spanish or acted rudely.

The man of 21 years old identify as Sergi Xavier M. M., said to the press he was to drunk to remember anything related on that attack, he also commented he never had a behavior like that. He said " i was to drunk, period".
The Spanish Ministry of Justice Mariano Fernández Bermejo
said an annoucment at the Deputy Congress that after reciving the confirmation of the order of arrest from the general prosecutor of the State Cándido Conde-Pumpido. The Embassy of Ecuator had elevate a diplomatic note of protest after the police release Sergi Xavier from prision this early monday.

Well, not exactly so. I think racism is mainly directed against North African and blacks because they are the more different. The muslims are also perceived as a threat to security, specially after de Madrid bombings. It is true that Latin Americans are more discriminated against if they come from countries were the population is mainly of native American race (such as Ecuador and Bolivia), but at least the have the advantage of speaking the same language. Argentinians and Uruguayans, on the other hand, are seen as our equals since they are almost completely of European descent. So yes, it is mainly racist discrimination.
We in Spain used to think we were a not racist people and express our horror at how others treated their minorities, particularly how Americans used to discriminate black people. But that was a false impresion, it was simply that, despite the different languages, Spain was ethnically, and also religiously, a very homogeneous nation. That has changed dramatically in just a few years, so there has not been time for people to adjust to the new situation.
It is worth noting that there have been virtually no incidents in the Armed Forces, despite having a higher percentage of immigrants than the general population. I hope, with time, the rest of us will follow this example.

Just in case you are referring to me I can certainly tell you that I don't hate Spain. My grandparents come from Spain. I been there and I can tell how some people treat immigrants like ****.

As a Mexican who visited Spain, I can say that I felt like I was visiting my cousins. I am a mestizo, like most Mexicans, my Spanish ancestors arrived in America so long ago that we have no record of it, even though my grandmother could trace our family heritage to the beginning of the 1800's. I felt very welcome. I think that they have a great sense of humor, and I love Spanish cinema. I have no problem with Spain, though I don't doubt that like in every country there are racist retard worms like the one in the video. No one should take this as an attack on the whole of Spain.
No one ever criticized my northern Mexican Spanish while I was there.
