Anyone have experience with mositure wicking/anti microbial ts? I bought one CoolMax t for $13 and it really works, but I want something that's better but not ridiculously expensive. Anti -microbial coating is important because after long days ts start to give odor. UnderArmour is overpriced in my opinion, plus their anti microbial coating doesn't last long after machine washings.

I was looking at 511 and they look good, but their antiimicrobial coating is not permanent as well. I would prefer the ones that use silver fabrics (Xtatic ) which give permanent anti microbial solution. Any good places that offer such Ts for a good price?

Any permanent anti-microbial t-shirt will cost you, it's as simple as that.

5.11 T's are great. I own a few.

Shirts made with natural fibres will not smell as bad, you could consider and try a merino wool t-shirt perhaps. The thing is that they are not cheap either. Shop around, I have seen them for like $35-45. They can wick moisture as well, it is the way it is weaved.

And they don't melt....

Still you will be the only guy formally wearing wool sweater in the 40 Celsius degree heat :)

Perhaps, but the 50-odd pounds of body armour, ammunition and equipment are responsible for the bulk of any heat stress...I'd rather be hot and sweaty than hot and shrink wrapped...

I was joking. I agree I myself wear thin sweater(synthetic, I'm civilian so burn risk isn't my major problem) instead of cotton t-shirt when hiking... first they don't get heavy when wet, they let water evaporate thous letting my excessive heat go out and they dry quickly. Second its not a contradiction, they still work protecting me from external cold when wet... And they are cheap considering some dedicated sport solutions... Sorry for off topic...

I'm a civilian so melting issue is not a concern for me. But I thought this whole melting problem has been fixed and the military issues moisture wicking clothes?

any good links where to buy the. I see LApolicegear has 5.11's for decent price..

Swanndri come highly recommended as far as wool layers are concerned, although I have no first hand experience of them. I personally use a HH lifa shirt, although I'm not sure if theyre as good in hot weather as they are in cold?

I LOVE my Patagonia stuff. The Capilene 1 in warm/humid conditions, Capilene 2 & Wool 2 as the temps drop a little.

if your a civi then I recommend any thin woollen shirts Helly do a 90% woollen top called a helly warm.

or rab do really nice 100% merino tops that only look good if your stacked as they are VERY well fitted.

If you are military hellys and the like in my mind are all a waste of time - they make you sweat more than a natural fibre and because body armour isnt wicking they dont allow any evaporation once youve sweated into them.

I found "Potomac Field Gear," same as DriFire but cheaper and has permanent anti-microbial fabric. USMC certified and scroed highest on ArmyTimes evaluation for for drying, smell control, and FR.

Anyone had experience with Potomac Ts? But I can't find them for sale online to civies.
