It could be one of the Iraqi soldiers that the US has been using. I wouldn't think the American would carry one of their own out like tat unless it was the only safe way they could.

If it was in the middle of a battle shouldn't the guy been left on say a stretcher so they don't need to haul the body again?

He may have been a truck driver that was ambushed and had to be picked up later. I remember seeing a couple reports about such occurances.
