Do you guys know what are the requirements to be a member of the 82nd airborne or 101st airborne? To be specific, I want to know If I can be a member of either unit, with a green card. I went to www.goarmy.com to ask the recruiters in the chat about this, but I couldn't get a straight and accurate answer, one of them said that US citizenship is required to be in 82nd or 101st, and another recruiter said all I need is a green card. I start to have a feeling these dudes don't know what they are saying, so I thought I can find out here. If any of you knows (not thinks) what the real requirements are, please post, I appreciate the help.
P.S.
I'm new to this board so yea, hi p-)

I think all you will need for right now is green card. You can get a security clearance with it (thats what everybody in the military has), but you might need citizenship for top security clearance. You probably won't need it in 82nd and 101st for some time, at least till you get your citizenship. But that is just my guess.

You should call your local recruiter directly. He'll have a quota to meet, and he will likely get you a straight answer in good time. If things proceed as you like, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING WRITTEN DOWN. SOmetimes these guys can forget what they've promised, misplace documents, etc.
When I was active USMC, there was a fellow in my unit from Canada. Green Card, no citizenship. I also remember a guy from New Zealand. I think that the requirements are for the military as a whole, also. You couldn't be required to be a citizen to get into the Army, but can get into the USMC with a green card alone.
Anyway, like I said, call a recruiter directly. If you want, you can even call a recruiter from another branch of service, and use whatever information you get to your advantage.

Splinter, You can join the Army with a green card but you cannot become an officer unless you are a citizen. You also get accelerated citizenship for serving. You would be excluded certain jobs that require a clearance but you could get into the 82nd or the 101st. My son met a guy when he went through Benning who was British and a green card holder. Good luck and don't give up.

According to hubby (also a Greenie Holder) there are 43,000 green card holders in the US military. So go for it!

Yes you can get into the 101st or 82nd with a Green Card. I wouldn't think about doing anything high speed though.

Hey, thank you guys for all the help, you're so nice ;) I once again talked to the Army recruiter today, and I was told that indeed I can be a member of 82nd or 101st as a green card holder. I also heard that for serving in the Army, I can get my citizenship in as fast as 3 years instead of 5. That's great news for me, I'm planning to be a part of Screaming Eagles and later on I want to be a Ranger, so wish me luck p-) Thanks again.

UCT_Sinasta I do not exactly know how to obtain green card for yourself, I got it through my father he is a US citizen now. However, here is a website where you can find some answers to whatever you need to know http://www.usaimmigrationservice.org/v.htm
