Just go to a surplus store and buy one made by Propper. I've had mine for a while and cuts the cold weather nicely.

The M-65 is old tech on par with rubber rain suits.
Fleece, goretex, softshell; they are what you want if you want to be protected from inclement wx.
But if you must have an M-65, Propper is now making them in UCP.

Speaking of surplus, I heard that US Army re-issues the troops with a new set of uniform and boots every 6 months. So where does all the old stuff go? Do the logistics guys burn them or something?
There have been a couple of guys here who've been selling surplus Oakley boots for about $60 a pair and I can say it has helped the local police here a lot, especially the SWAT units. The boots they get issued with are crap and hurts when they run with it, so they say.

Where'd you hear that?
It might be true for deployed units, but I haven't seen or heard of annual re-issue of new stuff anywhere. Granted, I'm a Reservist, but there have been issues with just getting first-issue ACUs for some of our folks who are still in BDUs.

Some of the sellers talking. Is there any truth in it?

Not in my experience. I'm still wearing almost everything that I was issued two years ago.

This guy told me once that if President Arroyo would send him a C130 he'd fill it up with all the old boots he's seeing lying around the base.
He was thinking of giving them to our troops over here.

Umm as far as getting issued new stuff every 6 months its not happening man and as far as the oakley stuff goes... There is a website for LEO's and military folks can go to and get all their stuff for dirt cheap anyway

Well, I am looking for a jacket I can wear at shooting range and while scouting woods, but also just walk to store or take my dog out...Green M-65 seems to be perfect fit..

Mundzoz why not just go with a fleece... Trust me they are a hell of alot warmer and more comfortable then a field jacket... Believe me when i say there is a reason that nobody wears them anymore

Hey will an interceptor body armor go over that M65 jacket? Out of curiosity.

I know with the old PASGT Vest, they would tell you to wear the M65 over it and then put your LCE on over the jacket. As for IBA...I don't have one yet. I'm stuck with the afforementioned Flak.

Ummm remembering back to BCT yeah the IBA would just barely fit over it... But most of us just wore poly-pros underneath our uniforms... hell we hated wearing the field jacket enough haha

I still prefer the British style smocks over the M65 jackets. Much larger pockets, nice big buttons to manipulate rather than those annoying press studs, rather comfortable and far better at keeping out the wind and nasty stuff.

Well i guess i can see your preference on the ability to keep out the sh!tty weather but the size of the pockets really doesnt matter much when they are buried under armor

Sportsman's Guide has U.S. pattern M65 woodland Croatian Army field jackets for about $20. Not a bad deal imo.

The only items I was authorized to draw from supply every six months were new steel toed boots, coveralls and work gloves. I am sure there was something else in there that I missed.
These were items used on the flightline which generaly were trashed by the time you needed new ones. Boots would have the soles almost gone from walking on concrete all day, gloves would be blown out and coveralls sometimes lasted longer but would be ripped up none the less. The only guys that generaly wore those worked grave shift. Being N. California it was pretty warm to be wearing coveralls during the day.
The field jacket was covered under the uniform allowance recieved every two years I think it was. To replace general issue items, which were items you recieved in basic training. Which the soldier/sailor/airmen/marine had to purchase on their own dime
Word that I heard was the Army will be doing away with the M65 in the near future if they have not done so already. Due to pretty much what has been stated already with the newer clothing items.
Which I feel is a shame. I found nothing to be warmer then a field jacket with a liner in it. Throw a fir rimmed hood on it and some gloves that snapped onto the arms and I was set. Of coarse we were restriceted as to what we could wear on the planes. No polypro or even gortex at the time. At least while refueling or servicing O2.
