During Op. Anaconda, one of those guys in PPLI popped a tango from something like 2600 meters. Does anyone have info on that? Also, what's the latest about one of those guys getting into trouble? Was there a court martial or something like that? Please advise.

James, a previous thread called 'Exotic Sniper Rifles' (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2029&start=0) touched on that. Check out some info here: http://www.sfu.ca/casr/101-ctac50.htm

The court martial thing I no nothing about.

I'm intrigued. Why is a Cannuck sniper wearing the latest pattern UKSF desert windproof (slotted rather than sewn on buttons) and what look to me like UK desert trousers (with crawl pads sewn on) rather than CadPat arids.

Not 100% sure about the trousers - it's too grainy if I blow it up.

I know the US desert boots are Cannuck issue, but plenty of Brits (me included) have a pair.

I can also see it's from a Cannuck website, as Tane would say, just some thoughts.

James, I read somewhere that a Canadian sniper did bag a tango at a range beating Carlos Hathcocks 2500yd record. He was apparently using American ammunition as well.

At the time of OP Anaconda and all of afghanistan mission, canada was still only issuing out CADPAT (TW) (the green ones) and CADPAT (AR) (arid region) was till in development and DND was having trouble with the contract. so the CDN Forces had no CADPAT (AR) brit snipers offered spme of their camo for our snipers (our being canada's) that's why many of the pics you see of Cdn snipers they are wearing British camo in afghanistan.
About the courtmarshal that was a sniper accused of posing a dead taliban with a smoke in his smoke and a sign on his chest sayin "f*ck terrorism" and he took a pic, it was found and he was suppsoe to lose his bronze star that the 101st was awarding to all CDN snipers who were in the Shah-i-kot valley and thats where they had the record kill of 2,430 metres, i beleive. But thay had no proff against him and he finaly got his bronze star.

James,

In August and September, 2002, there was a two-part story in Soldier of Fortune on Canadian snipers in Afghanistan titled "Bolt Actions Speak Louder than Words". It gives a pretty detailed account of their training, TOE and success in Operation Anaconda.

Hey, it was 2,430m that the Cannucks set the record with!

I recall the Minister of Defense in Canada making rather absurd statements on the TV and radio about why Canadian troops wore the Temperate CADPAT when deployed into Afghanistan...... something about how it would help, not hinder them.....

.... huh?
