I went out last weekend at Mil show, and picked up a very cheap handset, for around 30 bucks.

It reads, H 250 ........ and so on.

My Google Fuing has come up with the result that it attaches to PRC- 25/PRC-77.

But I saw a bunch off pictures off it being attached to PRC-113/PRC-117 ?

Am I wrong ? Maybe it's something completely different ? they all look similar.
The guy who sold it said it was for use in trucks and or jeeps, containing bigger radios.

Could be that he was a complete arse !! My gutfeeling say's he was because these handsets are completely compatible ? No ?

anyways, any radiomonkey's out there who could shed some light.

thanks.

PS. still looking for these parts to go with it : PRC-113 / PRC-117/ PRC-25/PRC-77

OKOK I am kidding, but stil a serious question, How realistic is it for me trying to obtain an PRC -113 /PRC -117.

There must be somebody on the forum that also collects these radios ?

worth a shot.

cheers my friends

That handset will pretty much attach to any Mil-Spec radio produced by Harris, the connector it uses is on most of the Harris radios.

You are correct in saying it will attach to the PRC-117, it will also fit the PRC-150 which is the HF equivalent of the 117.

Haha, I doubt you'd be able to buy a PRC-117, why would you want one anyway???

Will also fit any number of NATO radios... some needing an adaptor like the SEM-52/53

Problem with it , is that its not really repairable- we gave a bunch to the army of el salvador in the '80's and we realised they would have been better off with the H- 189 as that one had removable speaker and receiver elements IIRC- If a H-250 breaks, throw it away--PRC-77 and 25 are readily available on Ebay:batteries might be a different problem

Breaking like breaking or internal components breaking ?
I have a little experience at soldering, ... but maybe not enough for repairing

Still searching the net for diagrams

Batteries are throw away ?

The H-250 can attach to any 6 pin connector port. PSC-5, 117F, 117G, 148, and so on. I highly doubt you can purchase a 117, but if you could, then I hope you have around $30,000.

Its a rather standard handset and will work with most mil rigs with a U-228 connector and 600 ohm impedance (the plug you have is a U-229, which mates to U-228). However, some rigs use a different pin-out. Any American radio PRC-25 and after should be able to use it. I think you paid a bit much as H-250's are quite common. H-350's add an additional pin for the digital aspect of modern radios, but will work with the earlier ones. Both are common and can be re-wired for most applications with radios requiring 600 ohm impedance.

It Can be attached to this ones.

Am I wrong ? Maybe it's something completely different ? they all look similar. Does not matter depends on the connector that you use dont get confused with the H-350
The guy who sold it said it was for use in trucks and or jeeps, containing bigger radios. You can use it where ever you want to use it does not matter if its a truck, jeep or a bicycle.

The H-250 is not a repairable item--if one breaks inservice, you toss it and get a new one. If you look at the handset, it is sealed--there really isn't anything you can do to it without breaking it open.

And as for batteries--you don't need to worry about that until you have a radio, but the point made was that the batteries are relatively hard to find, and expensive when you do.
